In January, 2007, I purchased extended warranty on my 2000 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck through Great Atlantic Warranty, which is an underwriter for MEPCO INSURANCE PREMIUM FINANCING. I was quoted the following by Great Atlantic -Total cost of plan-$1,990.00, with $600.00 down, and monthly payments at 0% at 115.83, for 12 months. Great Atlantic Warranty then turned this contract over to MEPCO, and that's when things really got confusing. The amount of the down payment we made was correct, $600.00, but the monthly amount of payments was raised to $149.17, for 12 months, with the total cost coming to 2,390.00. We had a representative contacting us wanting to know where the payment of $149.17 was, and when we tried to explain it to them, we would be given different excuses, but it always came out that if we didn't send the payment, we would lose the $600.00 down payment and the warranty. Finally, after a couple of phone calls from the same representative, and after losing all patience, the representative finally seemed to be listening, and told us to fax her a copy of the original paperwork from Great Atlantic, and she would check it out. After she received the fax, she said that there had been an error on their part, and not only would they pay the months premium, they would be sending a check to us for over $200.00. Like fools, we took it that the situation had been handled until the following week when she called again! I spoke with her, again she wanted to know where the payment was, she had forgotten what she had told us until I reminded her and then asked if we had received the check yet. No, we still haven't received a check, but we have received disconnection notices, as well as the bills for the next two months! At this point, even though I felt that an extended warranty would be benefical to us, we just want the $600.00 back and the phone calls and mail to cease! We have been more than willing to do our part with what we have been asked to do, but we cannot help but feel we have been nothing but scammed and we are fed up, we just want the money we paid into this scam back!!!

MEPCO IS NOT AN UNDERWRITER THEY ARE A FINANCE COMPANY LIKE BOA AND CHASE

MEPCO has nothing to do with your warranty other than doing you the favor of allowing you to finance it interest free for 12, 18 or 24 months so that you do not have to come up with 2,000 or 3,000 dollars all at once. They are not an insurance company, they don't pay warranty claims. They simply send money to the insurance company on YOUR behalf, send the profits to the SELLER, and collect money from you monthly. Understanding what you buy, who finances it, and who is liable for the performance of the contract you signed up for is the first step in getting your money back.
