In March my husband and I bought two cars from your Walnut Creek, Ca Mercedes Benz dealership. A 2008 C300 and a 2006 CLS500, yes two cars at the same time.
The CLS500 was sold to us as a Mercedes Benz, certified pre-owned vehicle. VIN#WDDDJ75X16A043154. We really like the car. I asked why the mileage was so low on a 2006 car, was it in an accident? The salesman (Jimmy Molakides) told me no, that Mercedes Benz won't buy damaged vehicles as pre-owned. On the way home we noticed the car was shaking at a speed of 60 miles per hour. We got home and called the dealership, our salesman told us to bring the car in for service and that they would fix the car. We returned the car with in the next week for service.
They balanced the tires and sent us home stating there wasn't any thing really wrong with the car. Within a day we notice the shaking was still there. At this point we got worried and decided to run a Carfax Vehicle History Report on the vehicle, and found it had not been registered in over a year and was in an accident. We were never told the vehicle was damaged. In fact we were told just the opposite.
We called the dealership and spoke with our sales man Jimmy, he told us if we wanted to trade the car in for another car to bring it back, that we knew the value of the trade and could just get another car.
We were in and out of town for the next month, but on return had had enough of the shaking car and decided to take Jimmy up on his offer to exchange the car.
Now this is where is get crazy!
This past Saturday August 29th 2008, four month after we purchased the vehicle for $52,988, the trade in amount given to us was 34,000. an $18,988 loss. We were very angry about this loss and asked why, when we had tried to get Mercedes Benz to correct the problem with the pre-owned certified vehicle and they failed to fix it. All we wanted was to get the fair market price for the vehicle we had just paid for. I asked to speak with the manager in charge, (John Sala) he told me that the car had depreciated in the four month and now worth just the 34,000. As you can image we are shocked. A Mercedes Benz depreciating this much in four months! We still went ahead and purchased a 2008 CLS550 because we needed a car and needed the 2006 CLS ($52,988.) to be our down payment. No other dealership would have taken the car after running a CARFAX report.
Instead we were treated as idiots and pushed out the door with a loss of $18,988.00.What is even worse than the treatment and loss was that we have been repeat customers of Mercedes Benz, at that location for over 18 years and have purchased a total of 6 cars from them. I know that this location was a Stead Motors location, which actually treated us with respect and dignity. The new owners of this dealership and management team are full of rip-off artist.

Just so you know I have four cars, I don't drive the CLS everyday, I work over 60 miles one-way, so this car was a weekend car. I do have a job for which I am out of the country several time a month and do my personal business when I can. The time between my purchase and return was explained; the lack of increased mileage told the dealer I had not used the car. The car was trouble from the start. I do appreciate you reading my posting, I will be aired on Channel 7 this coming weekend regarding this issue and hope all that see the segment will run a carfax report on all certified vehicles before purchase and more importantely do not do business with Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek.

I was under the impression that a MB CPO CANNOT have a dirty carfax and be certified and that they have to disclose the carfax to you when purchasing the car IF it is certified. I know at least thats the way Lexus is and a few others, might want to verify this.
In any event ALL the highlines are bricks when it comes to resale. I dont care what anyone tells you and while that may be above average in depreciation my thinking is they are probably makin u pay for their mistake of buying a non certifiable vehicle. Verify what happened to the vehicle now, did they still claim as certified? What the price? Have a friend do some secret shopping on the vehicle. My theory is they gave u the price for wholesaler since the accident is present they cant certify it for retail sale and have to wholesale it.

You bought the car and on the way home you noticed it was shaking. You go home and called them, and brought it back within a week. You get the car back and notice the same thing, so you got home and ran a Car Fax report finding out it was in an accident. You called them and they said to bring it back to exchange it. From what you have said this seems like it was 1-2 weeks at most. Now, you said you were out of town for the next month. This puts it about about 1-1.5 months. Yet you stated you did not go back to the dealer to take them up on their offer for 4 months.
So it did not seem like the shaking was that bad, or that you were really that upset that the car was in an accident. If you were you would not have been driving it for at least another 2.5 months after you could have taken it back.
I am not saying that they were right if they misrepresented the vehicle and that in itself could be enough for them to just take the car back at the value you paid. The problem is the amount of time you continued to have the car after you found out you were mis-lead. It is one thing to find out and return it the next day, it is another to find out and still wait months to return it.
