We purchased a home from Mercedes in December, 2001. We recently had 2 terrible hurricanes whip through our area and terribly ruin our house.

1. Our home, which is a 2-story large home, has a 4' extended garage. We have now come to find out that the builders never used flashing to attach the two "pieces" of the buildings together, they decided to use CAULK! Due to this, we have severe water damage in our garage to personal belongings, including a 2001 Toyota minivan, and black mold throughout the garage area. We haven't even begun to look at what my have become of our years of accumulated christmas ornaments.

2. We had a horrendous amount of water pouring in through the walls of the front of the house. It was not any damage to the window, it was strictly damage through the wall. The front wall was completely soaked to the core, the living room became our new pool area. We now have black mold in the carpet and inside the wall and insulation.

3. The water also entered through the door jamb area and ruined the door. That area had been sand bagged yet it still got damaged. We have wood flooring that was soaked and now damaged beyond repair. Our door is now damaged beyond repair and it has become tougher everyday to use it.

4. From what we know, there is no damage to our attic area, since we have had no leaking. But with all the other damage, we have an addition to the suffering. My daughter has a major organ disease that will require a transplant in the next year. She cannot live here in a house surrounded in black mold and this unsafe area.
Mercedes Homes has told all owners that they are not allowed to talk due to a confidentiality agreement that they had signed when they bought the house. Fortunately, I do not own the house, someone else does and my family just lives here. We also aren't paying any rent. So therefore, I have no restrictions to Mercedes that I need to follow.

If you are considering to move into a new home built by Mercedes Homes, all I have to say is "Buyer Beware". To the rest of us that are suffering, we need to find a lawyer so that we can file a class action suit and have Mercedes pay for the damage that they rightfully should be fixing!

Help Others and File an Official Complaint

Please don't let this go away. File a complaint with the better business bureau at this internet address.

http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp

Then, file a complaint with the Florida attorney general at:

What gets the attention of these organization is volume. The more complaints the more seriously they begin to suspect Mercedes Homes is actually as bad as citizens say. It's best if you have names and dates. I agree, Mercedes Homes has little care for their customers.
