We received a completely legitimate looking check from this company approximately $67k.  The attachment to the check talked about $250k in business funding being available.  At first we thought this was some kind of marketing garbage, but we scrutinized the check and could find nothing that made it look like anything other than a valid check.  Additionally, as we handle deals for amounts like this daily we began searching our accounts for any with receivables matching the check amount, but we found none.

So, we called the number listed on the check and this is the conversation that followed, verbatim:

Them: [indeciperhable]

Us: Hi, we're trying to reach Merchant Access Group about a check we received for sixty seven thousand dollars. We can't match that up with any pending business and are trying to see which customer... [interrupted]

Them: It's a loan. How much money do you need?

Us: Well, none.  Since the check doesn't say it's for a loan we wanted to call to make sure this wasn't for a customer. Why would you send out sixty seven thousand dollars...[interrupted]

Them: Why the f*** are you wasting my time?

Us: What?! F*** you a**hole. Go F*** yourself.

Upon further examination of this check, in extremely fine print, on the back, the very last line of information at the bottom of the check reads "5. For promotional use only. Non-negotiable."  A magnifying glass is needed to actually read the print, it is so small.

We seriously doubt any bank is going to catch that, as it's vritually the same color of the check, and everything else on the check talks about the security features of the check.

Stay away from these clowns.
