Yesterday I rec'd a letter from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. on behalf of their client NCO Portfolio Management who is apparantly attempting to collect on a debt that doest exist. The letter states that the origional creditor is GREAT/ASSOCIATES NATIONAL who I have never heard of and I can find no information on. They state that I owe 1437.96. Funny thing is that I am in the process of trying to buy a home so I had a lender pull my credit report THE DAY BEFORE! No mention of this debt anywhere on it which I suppose is a small blessing. I went though a similar situation last year with my boyfriend and Midlad Credit Management but they had actually reported to the credit bureaus. That was a long headache to clean up. I am furious that these people can just gain access to my personal information and create fradulent information and try to scam me out of money. This can't be legal. Why do the continue to get away with this?

I received a letter from this company stating I owe them $1,384.32 for a debt to Chevy Chase (not the actor). I have never held an account with any Chevy Chase company. Funny, they say they bought the loan from Palisades and I have read the reports about them. My question now is due I dispute this debt or contact the Attorney General on this one?? Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to handle this matter.
