I paid in long term disability from my employer SEARS . I was counting on it if I ever needed it. One day I did need it. I have DDD of my neck & spine & FIbromyalgia. I got my Social Sercurity & for 2 yrs METLIFE paid me. I got divorced & really counted on theses incomes to be with me to pay my bills. One day METLIFE comes in with I'm not able to draw any more. My health did not improve, more than any thing got worst. I have called lawyers in all states, I too can not get any one to take my case. It seems to be a scam with all involed , including ERISCA . I had one lawyer tell me he wouldn't handle it because the judges was wrapped up in it too. Now let me ask how fair is this world ? Us that worked all our lives, now disability, still get messed over. Is there anyone out there to help us ? I will go to my grave fighting METLIFE, you can depend on that. I am letting everyone I can to tell them not to buy it, it is a waste of your money. Put your money in a bank & save it, it's safer that way. Watch for the crooks & scams of METLIFE.

Insurance companies may refuse legitimate claims for long term disability benefits
AUTHOR: SonjaKathryna - (United States of America)

Hi, my name is Sonja, & Im with the disability rights group from Sokolove Law. We have been reviewing thousands of potential claims where insurance companies like Metlife refuse long-term disability benefits to someone who has a legitimate claim. Too often, legitimate claims are denied because insurance companies look for every possible legal and technical angle available that will allow them to deny a valid claim. When an insurer does not live up to its end of the contract, they act on what is called bad faith.
For folks interested in learning more about bad faith practices of insurance companies, there is great information available at http://awe.sm/5o82i. If your claim has been rejected, I want you to know your rights and options. Call our office toll-free at 800-581-6943 to learn about your options and receive a free legal consultation.

not to defend the company because i work there but...

there are certain aspects of companies plans that most employee's are not aware of some employers either give misinformation or they dont give you all the plans policies and procedures in your handbooks.
while yes you were approved at one time and after 24 months your benefits ended that was because you had a limited benefit condition. Sear's will only let Metlife pay for so many months/years if your disability falls under one of their catogories listed in the plan that would qualify as a limited benefit condition. if that condition remains the same and the diagnosis doesn't change in that 24 months then Metlife has no choice per Sear's plan to discontinue your benefits. BUT if at any point in that 24 months the condition changed to another diagnosis then you could qualify for continuation of benefits under the Sears LTD plan. i know it may seem confusing, but understand that Metlife doesn't pick your companies plans, its corprate at Sear's who picks the way your plans work from the rules, policies, waiting periods etc...
again please understand im not defending the company because im an employee. i work in the call center, i am not a case manger. but i am familar with complaies plans and policies and just wanted to give you a better understanding. hope it helped. i have been on disability, and believe me i feel for everyone who has ever had issues, i myself was denied for benefits before too and im an employee, so no one has it easy.

Response To MIke MetLife Denial

Mike, thanks for your questions. The reasons were in my opinion a convolution of statistical mis-translation and bending of facts they picked up in their phone interviews. with people who were not directly related to my care. Yes, part of my expenses were paid for by Workman's comp, including medical costs. BUT the basic benefit period which was administered by Met Life long expired, the Value of my Disability was $400 a week
or $1600, a months this was subtracted from my Monthly disability which was approx $9,000 a month. The purpose of my writing, was to warn people who might think insurance companies come to the rescue when you are in trouble, when they might actually be your worst night mare. My last operation should be in September, hopefully then I can go back to work and start feeding my family. But Yes you guessed it I will not re-subscribe for any Long Term Disability, at least not from MetLife.

Metlife LTD Insurance Company Ripoff Why they Do it.

Metlife and i suspect other companies, always try to find some loophole to deny LTD and other Benefits. I was approved for LTD benefits, from 2006-2012, due to Injuries at Work. I received one payment, then nothing reason. I had not responded to some forms they had sent. (I am am either laid up in hospital or my house was flooded). I never saw the forms. After much back and forth, they resend the form. I get my primary doctor to fill them. Shortly after, I receive a denial, but they encourage me to appeal and include any medical disability certifications, from my doctors. I do appeal and send certification for every month I was out that I was totally disabled. I get a cryptic insulting dnial which in part is incoherent and on the other part, first summarizes my situation bending facts here and there to fit their scenario, even acused me of taking Cialis (if you know what I mean) Simply becase one of my doctors wrote a Cialis prescription, which I never took because I wa drugged enough, however because of the sensation, and mobid minds at Aetana, they found that worthy of mention in their incredibly difficult to understand denial report.
Simply they defined my case based on some population statistics fo my injuries and job function, and from that concluded I should have been able to work! They ignore the process of illegal profiling, and do not understand that statistics are based on a curve that exclude points outside the scatter gram, and they know that I am disabled, that is why they talked to everyone else except me and people who matter. Additionally I dii not have a jpb to go to, because according to my then employer, Metlife also administers our leave program and almost a year ago my employee through Metlife recommendation terminated me for "failure to return from leave".
My worry is far from jus the disability money, I have 3 more operations pending, no income, cannot work to sustain my family, I have depleted my 401k and am now digging into my meagre retirement check which might carry us for another month or two. The main point is do not Sign up for metlife long Term Disability. They know they are wrong, but they also know the court system is glogged, even if you file a case, it might be heard in another 10 years. At my age and my illness, I might no longer be here. However, I believe they picked on a wrong one this time. My father died at 102 and my mother died at 104, meening I can comfortably wait for several years to have my day in court.
I wish my real insurance USAA handled my long term disability. I would have been cured and back to work a long time ago. BUT I am caught in a nest of vicious snakees in sheep's clothing.

What reason given?
AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

A few questions about your report...
1. What reason did Met give in stopping your payments?
2. Was your injury work related? If so it may be covered under workmans comp, not disability
3. What judges are you talking about? Is there a court case going on? What is the case about?
4. What type of policy was it? Through your job? Was it an "Any job" or "My job" disability policy?
5. Are you getting SS and state disability? Is there laws in your state saying you can only recoup up to your salary, and are you at that with SS and state disability?
As for about putting your money in a bank...that's not a viable replacement option for a disability policy as that money can run out, premiums paid toward a policy would pay you benefits for life if disabled.
