At College lecture I passed out then woke up and threw up. I had not been feeling well since I woke up that morning but still attended lecture.

The professor called the nurse who then proceded to contact the paramedics to arrive. The paramedics arrived they talked to me (asked the date and day of week) then they had a blood pressure monitor/pulse rate device that they said "we are just going to hook this up to you and check your vitals OK?". I said "OK".

The paramedics and school nurse then recommended I go to the hospital so they could give me some flu medicine. I declined to go. Then they told me I needed to sign on a tablet to decline services.

I have since recieved statements for $600 for services. I have contacted them and explained the situation to them and they refuse to stop trying to collect the money even though I was never told about any charges and I declined thier services.

When I called I was told that of regardless of who calls the paramedics and whether or not the "patient" refuses services there is a charge to be paid by the "patient". I told them I did not call them and declined thier services and did not think it fair that I be billed.
Their idea of resolution was to offer me a payment plan.

This company does not seem to care at all about thier "customers" whose lives and credit they are ruining because of thier unethical business practices and unwillingness to resolve complaints.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Regarding Bill From Metro Paramedics Inc.

AUTHOR: CHITOWNMEDIC - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 11, 2009

As long as you stated that you (yourself) did not call/request an ambulance, you can not be held accountable for paying the response fee to Metro or any other ambulance provider in the State of Illinois.  They CANNOT charge you for taking your blood pressure, or any vital signs, the statement you signed (hopefully you did read the fine print) was a medical release of liability the Paramedics need to document to their medical control Hospital that proved you were advised verbally of the potential risks of declining transport & that you were oriented fully to comprehend said risks in refusing. Metro & Superior can be sneaky about their attempts to collect anything from potential patients. I hope this has been resolved by now, if not you may want to contact an attorney or file a complaint with your local State's Attorney for possible charges against them. At the very least make sure you check your credit history rating to make sure they haven't placed you in the bad credit rating file.
