I received a quote from Meyers for 720 dollars for a 1000 lbs upon arrivel they loaded the truck and after all my stuff was on the truck they told me there was 3000lbs on the truck and told me my move was going to be 2400 dollars this came as quite a shock to me. I then told them that this was way more then i was quoted and i could not afford this. At no time during this did they actually weigh my stuff they gave me this quote based on a cubic ft measurement. Then I told them that I could not afford this price and i would need to remove my stuff from the truck, at this time I was then told i would have to pay another 1000 dollars to unload the truck. This came as an even bigger shock to me. We had to scramble to find credit cards to put the move on because at this point my stuff was being held hostage. Upon arrival of my stuff in Chicago there was only one mover who delved my stuff damaged and missing. In the process of this move Meyers lost @ boxes of my professional make up used for work as well as @ boxes of dvds. As far as Meyers van lines they are no help at all and as of right now im taken them to court to resolve this matter.

No Basis to Rebut

Dude, you're a claims adjuster. You don't have the original quotation provided to the shipper; if you have anything at all, it was done AFTER the items were loaded. Once the items are loaded, it is illegal to come back and bump up the quote. You needed to do that before the move even started. Stick to claims - if you're even competent to do that.
To the OP, if you have a written quote for $720 - take them to small claims court for the differemce between what they billed you and your written quote. It will be a dead bank 100% winner. They screwed up by not challenging the quote before the move even began. It won't even mater how many cubic feet it takes in the trailer; the claim they're making is bogus. Now, you'll have to go to Vegas, but it's cheap to file the suit and you'll have to get the sherriff to serve it for you. Just do it. Meyers is a bad name in the moving business - if you do research on them, you will see what I mean. Best of luck to you....

This customer received a quote based on the amount of items they reported to be relocating. (Original order for service can be presented as evidence). Upon arrival for pick up; the customer added packing services to the relocation; as well as the amount of items to be relocated drastically increased. (Copy of final inventory- picked up can be provided as proof). We dont use "bait and switch" tactics. The customer understood if they added additional items the price would change. please look a the order for service; it clearly tells them to look over the items and if they wanted to add any items to the order for service to pleas contact the office days in advance prior to pick up. They never called us to adjust the item list. They also added packing and materials used on this relocation (a copy can be provided as well) the packing and materials added to $360.00. The customer signed it agreeing to the charges and acknowledging all materials were indeed used.
Basically the customer got charged for 350 Cu-FT @ $4.12 per CU-Ft = $1440.00 this included pick up-delivery-load-unload-truck-fuel and movers. Furthermore, the customer did not tell us she had a long carry at the delivery location; this fee is for $75.00 plus the customer had stairs, which the normal fee is for $75.00 and finally the shuttle fee because there was no access for our truck which is normally $300.00. The entire amount of $300.00+ $75.00+ $75.00 were not charged! They were actually discounted off there bill; we cannot believer that after providing them a total discount of $450.00 on the spot they would still make a complaint online for us!
we also want to clarify the damaged items they are complaining about; first of all the customer cannot say they had items missing because if you look a the inventory lists, no notations mention anything about having missing items- they are all signed stating al items were indeed received upon delivery.- regardless we on 5/26/09 we Received an email from this customer with a letter stating about the damaged/missing items, we placed in case file and sent the claim forms via email to the customer . On 6/4/09 Received Email With Claim Forms, Cont & Inv List. There werent any pictures submitted for the claim forms Sent Cust. Letter of Confirmation. Placed In Elec File. On 6/9/09 we received an Email with Pictures. Sent Cust. Letter of Confirmation. Placed In Elec File. Case It's Ready To Be Settle. Forward It To The Settlement Dept To Process. On 6/22/09 the settlement offer ready to be sent to customer. Sent to CS! To send. On 6/23/09 Sent settlement offer to customer via email, placed copy in case file. On 7/6/09 the Customer Sent An Email Disputing Offer, Reply Explaining The Terms And Agreements On Liability Contract. She signed the carrier liability insurance accepting .60 per pound for missing or damaged items.
As you can see we took care of her relocation, we never lied about possible additional cost; we can provide all proof; we gave her a discount of -$450.on the spot; we also took care of her calim for missing and damaged items.
The settlement offer sent to the customer included:
Items That Are Covered By The Carrier Liability:
[2] boxes w/ makeup items [missing] |
[2] box / DVDs [missing] |
TV Base [damaged] |
End table [damaged] |
If you have any further questions please dont hesitate to contact us.
