On October 27, 2007 I and some friends went to Mickey's Hangover an after hours pub. When receiving my bill I noticed that I got charged for 2 waters $4.00 (apparently they are not allowed to serve tap water after hours). I wrote on the bill, because I noticed the waitress was in a hurry to rush us out (even though they were still open for another 2 hours).
I wrote, "Only received one water, please deduct the other and that is your tip". While at the waitress stand she noticed and immediately approached me and told me "what kind of bullshit is this I serve you all night and you write on my receipts". I tried to explain to her to just deduct it from my bill and that would be her tip, she continued stating that it is rude to write on the receipts.
I then proceeded to ask for the manager and she replied "you want the manager, go find them yourself". Well I wasn't go to set there so off I went to hunt down the manager while waiting, our "not so friendly waitress" Casi walks by and stares me down (how childish). I wait for the manager and he approaches "Benny" I tell him the situation and all he does is shrug it off and tells Casi to apologize (not refunding us for our item not purchased). We all get the "I'm sorry" yet Casi manages to point out "my manager made me".
Not happy with the situation I proceed to send an email to the website stating that I want to speak to the owner, no response, I call the establishment and Benny answers stating that he received my email and that a "Q" is the person I need to speak to and that he will call. Finally, a week later I get Kyu the Director of Operations to respond he promises a phone call to clear up the matter. I give him 3 phone numbers and time of availability.
I have still not heard anything! Not only did I get insulted by the server but they did not even refund the stupid water I didn't get. All I got was to be humiliated in front of friends and bad service.

You stated some great concerns...$2.00 would not have been enough to leave as a tip if I had ordered a meal, I always leave 20%. But only ordering a water and fries seems like a good tip to leave to me. "Waiting on us all night" a term she used as she stated other profanity was about an hour as we all were tired and only stop by to get a bite to eat on our way home. My main concern is this: I have worked with customers pretty much all my life, I deal with clients all day long yelling at me and threatening me (law) when I go to a restaurant and order food and the waitress yells at me "WHY are you writing on my d**n receipts? I don't need to take this s**t from you. Go find the f*&*& manager yourself" is a little too much to be shouting at a customer. As much as I have dealt with customers (and yes there have been some bad ones) I would never and have never found myself shouting profanity at them and telling them to find a manager themselves. If you had been in my shoes I'm sure you would have been appalled at the situation and asked for a manager. Its not the matter of the tip or the water its the way she handled the situation, presented herself and the establishment. Come on, would you want to deal with that as a customer?

I have waitressed quite a bit, so here is an ex-server's thoughts. *I haven't waited tables at a bar, only restaurants, but same basic idea*
The server generally is not authorized or even able to take items off of checks. She would have to have the manager delete the extra water.. so writing that you didn't get the water on the check doesn't magically make the $2 charge disappear. She'd have to hunt down a manager to delete it, and what if he/she wouldn't take it off the bill without talking to you to verify you did not get it? Then she'd get nothing as a tip.
Also you stated that she "waited on you all night". And you were only leaving her $2? Wow. I would guess that pretty much any server who served someone all night would be more that a little hot under the collar getting a tip like that.
Here's what should have happened. You should have asked to have the water removed from the bill face to face with the server instead of writing it on her check. That way she could have the manager remove it, and give you a correct tab, allowing you to leave her tip in cash or added to your credit card if that is how you were paying.
