My computer seemed to be going slower than usual, so I wanted to test the speed. I have done it before, but this time it was different. I entered the search as "free online speed test" and found one that was being offered by Micro Soft - a very trusted name. I clicked on it and it took me to a site where they wanted to scan my computer to find what might be causing the slowness. They found 622 things that needed to be fixed, after a 1 hour scan. I clicked on "Fix Errors" and it said you must register first. Then it said to fix the 622 errors I would have to sign up for the program at I think $29.95 which is definitely a bait and switch since it was promoted as free. I still have the icon called Speedy PC Pro which does the same thing but I don't know how they got into the act since I definitely clicked on MS free speed test.

Not really a "bait and switch"
AUTHOR: Jim Martin - (USA)

In my opinion, this is not a "bait and switch." I just checked out the program myself, 912 errors on my system. It is advertised as the scan being free. Nothing is actually stated about the repairs and that is what they want you to pay for. It's not really "bait and switch," just poor advertising.
My recommendation, back up any necessary files and any programs you wont be able to easily retrieve and re-install windows. This is the only way to ensure ALL of those errors disappear. I do this to my system at least once a year. Plus any programs you no longer use, will get wiped away and will no longer be taking up space on your hard drive.
Most store bought systems have the program to do this right on the hard drive, and those even ask you if you have backed up your files. This program will return your system to the factory default, it should run just like the day you took it out of the box. It takes a couple of hours to do, but I feel it is worth it.
I hope this helps.
