On Dec. 31,2012, I was driving 2 hours to Medina to buy a truck when my brakes went spongy.  I bought some fluid, put it in, it went right through.  Brake line busted.

I eventually got the car, a 2004 Chevy Impala, which had all of it rotors and pads replace within the last 2 years, to the Medina Midas shop.  They called Jan. 2, 2013 with an estimate of $2100.00 to fix it.  It would need a new master cylinder, all new lines, new hoses, new calipers, new pads, and new rotors.

Out of town customer, they had me.

I told them I'd be in to pick the car up.  I went there with my car hauler, (I'm a farmer), and picked up the Chevy.  They gave me a 'revised' estimate of $1765.63 in writing.   We took it home and found what I suspected, the left rear brake line had rusted through.  Cost -$5.99 in parts.

Since we had it down, we replaced all the brake lines ourselves - $55.00 in parts.   The hoses, cylinder, calipers, pads and rotors were all fine.  You could even see that without taking the tires off.

Cheats.  The man should be run out of business.

Jeez...

No wonder the auto repair industry carries such a bad reputation!  Shops like this one give the honest shops a bad name.  I could understand recommending to replace all the brake lines, since one had rusted through, the others probably were not far behind.  But, replace the entire braking system (sans the ABS module...hahaha!) over a busted brake line???  That's overkill.  Definitely a rip off.

This is a classic Ripoff

I am surprised they didn't try to sell you a Antilock brake module.

If you were to make a fraud complaint the low lives would claim the parts need to be changed due to potential contamination in the hydraulics.

The Cops won't charge them and the next guy wont be smart enough to avoid them.

Thanks for the heads up.
