After 3 months, Midcontinent decided to disconnect my 18 yr old sons account (bill is paid in full) due to an delinquent account my middle daughter has with them. My middle daughter does not live with us and we don't have anything to do with it. When my oldest daughter called to find out why the services were disconnected (no prior warning was given), an account tech named Katie began going into detail with her about accounts that have nothing to do with my son. My name nor my middle daughter's name was attached to his account at that time. When I found out what was going on I told my son to add me so that I could call and find out what the deal was. Last night I called and was informed that Katie had every right to disclosed that information because I was listed on the account. Hold on.. At the time of the original call with Katie I was not listed. And after talking with the individual more it has became apparent that the data has been changed. I asked to be removed from the account and to my knowledge this has not taken place. Midcontinent is basically holding my son's account hostage to gain funds from his sister. I didn't think that was legal. Midcontinent is huge up here in the Dakotas because there is no other cable provider in a lot of areas, they feel they can run a business any way they want.

The reason I had my son add me is so that I could approach the situation in the way it should have been. My oldest called and was able to get information some how that had nothing to do with my son's account. (Yet it was being used to disconnect his account) That is why I went in the direction I did. The way their own privacy statement is written you must be added to the account to access any information. We are easy to connect as being a family because it is only myself and my children that have the name we have in our area. So when the name was being searched questions arouse as to our connection. Is there missing data in my report? Possibly. The person I spoke to last night went as far as to say that I was on the account from the very beginning. Which is a lie. So 1) disconnection of an account for no other reason than being related to someone with a delinquent account,, 2) disclosing private information to a unapproved of person and 3) Lying about it , is what it all boils down to. (Hope that made sense).

While I know that North Dakota doesn't exactly have a huge population. I seriously doubt that they just randomly found a similar name and assumed(we all know what happens then) that your Son and Middle Daughter(who is not even living at the same place) were the same family and should be linked to the same account. Someone gave them this information.
By the way if this is your 18yo son's account why is the only thing you asked him to do was add you to the account. Apparently your oldest called and was able to get information. Not knowing what they require but in general when you call a company to "verify" information they generally ask for items that a stranger would not know, but a family member could know. So this could be how your oldest was able to get some information. It just seems like there is a lot of details missing. Which with your son being 18 years old to be totally honest with you, may be details you do not know about.
