We called Midwest Restorations in early February. The secretary said she gave our info to one of their contractors and he would get in touch with us to give us a price estimate on replacing the front & back porches.
Tony Roehr, one of their contractors, called us & came over. His price was unbeatable so we hired him through Midwest Restorations. He told us he was a family member (the company is advertised as family owned & operated, which was important to us so we specifically brought it up during the first meeting). He told us we would be doing all our business through him. We believed him since the secretary we called (we got the number from the phone book) said the same - that we would deal with the contractor.
We signed a contract and he began work. He tore down the porch and put the frame & floor back up. He then told us he needed another payment for materials for the roof. He never came back out after he got our money.
We called him every day for weeks then decided to call the president of Midwest Restorations. Russ, the president, told us he fired Tony and they weren't responsible for what he did. Russ, the president, told us he would come out and look at what Tony did. While he was here, he said we weren't the first ones to complain about similar issues and he would finish the project for the amount of money we owed Tony (~$1800).
After Russ, the president, looked at the job he realized the contractor Tony did a horrible job and it would be costly to fix what was done. He then retracted his verbal contract to fix the porch stating he would re-do the porch, stairs, and railings for $2500 and did not mention the price for the roof. Tony, the contractor, and Russ, the president of Midwest Restorations, lied to us and stole our money. They now refuse to stick to the contract, verbal or written.
Currently the porch does not meet code, there are no railings which is extremely dangerous, the porch floor and other porch frame materials are not pressure treated and have been exposed to the elements for about 3 months or more, and we are out the $6800 we already paid plus the amount it will take to tear down the poor job that was started and to get it done properly.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
The Court Said We Were Not Liable
AUTHOR: Russell - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
This customer signed a contract with a sub-contractor salesman who had been fired from the company a prior to contract signing. The customer made all checks payable to Tony Roehr not Midwest Restorations.
We do not like to see anyone be taken advatage of so I did go over to their home and look to see if we could help them. For us to fix the poor quality of workmanship would cost more than this customer was willing to spend.
Let it be known that a judge found us not liable for this contract because Midwest Restoration did not sign the contract nor did we recieve any monies from the customer.
This customer has contined to slander this companies name, and that is being handled seperately.
