Choosing the loosers...

AUTHOR: RadioFreak - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 05, 2011

I'm not sure about any of the people who created model mayhem, I have not had any need to be in any contact with them whatsoever. The best way to avoid getting banned on a site like that is to have minimal participation in the discussions and if you do, let it be a positive one.

As for a response to consumer comment #3, the problems you list are things that can be avoided by you.

Model Mayhem has a large variety of artists and models, it's important to be selective. I'm sure there are flakes, but that's exactly why people who work in the industry ask for references! If you don't, that's your own fault.

If you have looked at any of the profiles on MM, you can clearly see many are artists, not pornographers, trying to network to find models, designers, MUA's, etc. There are also numerous forum discussions on what's art and whats not. In the mix, I'm sure some do, do porn, but then again, you can avoid them, since you probably wouldn't even know they did porn unless you are looking for it. I'd like to see some proof on any claims that the models are in fact "prostitutes", since there are many very beautiful, very talented hard working models. To discriminate about those that travel or are from overseas is the most insulting, ignorant, and prejudiced statement.

As for the rates, everyone is different. An aspiring model may want to trade time for pictures, or an accomplished one may charge $100/hour. On MM, there are so many, you can pick and choose as you please and if you don't like MM, go to an agency and pay $200+/hour for a model :)

There are many professional and outstanding photographers and other artists on MM. If anyone is on there "to get layed" I'm not sure why they wouldn't try a dating site first? Just doesn't make sense. I'm sure there are a few creeps out there, but that goes for the web in general. You just have to micromanage and be cautious.

I would like to see the photography of Tom Davis. I couldn't find anything googling for the name for LA area photographers.

Model Mayhem is a good tool, there's quite a mix of people though, be selective, be safe.

I would not recommend Model Mayhem - bad experiences

AUTHOR: Tom Davis - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I've been on Model Mayhem for over a year and used it in every way possible as a photographer. I fee that I can add some input into it here.

I would not recommend it but if you have to use it, do not pay for any upgrades.  The moderators and Admins there ban people on a whim without refunding your money and there's no one to appeal or complain to. I know a number of people who were banned for little or no reason after paying for VIP membership. One was banned for simply saying that he disagreed with the theory of global warming.

The Models: Many of them are prostitutes and do porn. Especially the traveling ones, they are almost 100% hookers.  I know more than a dozen on there right now who pass themselves off as glamorous traveling models when in fact, they are in porn, especially the ones from foreign countries.   The ones that are not hookers try to charge $100 per hour for modeling and they are average looking at best.  Some you can get down to $50 per hour and they don't know how to pose, do makeup and look average. If you are a good and experienced photographer and have the pictures to prove it, some will model for free in exchange for pictures but again, they are sub standard.  Another word of caution, they have a 50% flake rate. Half of them don't show up for the shoot and make last minute excuses. There's no feedback allowed on Model Mayhem so these 'models' are free to hook and flake without anyone calling them on it or passing the word about them.   You get sub standard models who can't pose, have flab and tattoos. and show up zonked out on drugs or with hangovers.  (if they show up at all)

The Photographers: Ever wonder why you don't see professional photographers on there? Beside the fact that the models suck, many of the so called photographers are just guys with cameras looking to get laid. They'll show up at a park to shoot a model with a point and shoot camera they probably borrowed and try to get the model half nude or in a bikini and then proposition her.    Again, since no feedback is allowed, the models can't warn others about these guys.

I admit that there are few genuine people on there. Beginning models and photographers who get together and practice their craft. But only a few.   And that is the only thing that Model Mayhem is good for. Total beginner models and photographers practicing and learning.  But even still you have to put up with the hookers, flakes, sub standard models and guys looking to get laid.   But after a few months or a year, it's no longer useful or worthwhile.   As the models get better, they go through an agency and as the photographers get better, they have no more use for sub standard 'models' who have a high flake rate and don't know how to pose even if they did show up.

Bottom line: Don't pay for upgrades, you don't need them. Get in, learn your craft, and get out.  It's a sleazy place to be.

I'm sure I'll get the typical personal attack replies and people telling how they've been on Model Mayhem for years and enjoy it and blah blah blah.  If you're stuck at the beginner level, that's great, enjoy yourself. But don't try to pass off a site like Model Mayhem as a serious tool for professional or even above average amateur models and photographers.

Model Mayhem

AUTHOR: GsaysNoFair - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, November 13, 2009

The Model Mayhem site is by far the best Free Modeling site offered on the web. If it has/had not done justice for the ones perspiring to be on the site, I am sure the representatives had reason to take any action that they did in removing a member.

I have had no problems with the admins, and I haven't done anything special to be in their god books either. If any rep of the site has removed anyone unfairly, it would have had to be in contest of an argument or confrontation, which they felt was unprofessional. Model Mayhem is NOT a rating site, it is where you make and not break business. If you have a problem with the site and feel they were unfair, you should calmly contact them about the matter rather than trying to slander their name for your own benefit. MM#....luvnothate

Consider the source

AUTHOR: Photographer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 24, 2009

I would say "consider the source". Google her name with "Florida" & "arrested"

I have been a member of Modelmayhem almost since it's inception and have never had a problem with the way it's run or the folks running it. On the contrary, they seem to go out of their way to run a good site. "Kristy" is only upset because MM deleted her and her father's acct for numerous MM rule violations. If you can't follow the rules, go play in someone else's sandbox or start your own model/photographer site.
