Rip-off Report REVIEW / Modest Needs Foundation: an Award-Winng Charity Committed to Providing an Excellent Experience for its Donors and Applicants

Modest Needs Foundation joins Rip-off Report Corporate Advocacy Business Remediation & Customer Satisfaction Program -- a long name for a program that does a lot for both consumers, businesses, and non-profit organizations alike.

Rip-off Report Corporate Advocacy Business Remediation & Customer Satisfaction Program -- a program that benefits the consumer, which helps to increase consumer satisfaction and confidence when doing business with a member business or giving to a member non-profit.

When a business or non-profit organization joins the Rip-off Report Corporate Advocacy Program, they must make a commitment to us in writing to 'doing whatever it takes to ensure the best possible experience for their donors and clients.' What does that mean? It doesn't mean that Rip-off Report expects that non-profit members of our CAP program will try to give help to everyone who asks for it. It means that Rip-off Report expects that non-profit members of our CAP program will review and respond to ALL donor or client complaints promptly. It means that every issue raised by a donor or client will be taken seriously and every client will be treated fairly and with respect. Making things right can mean lots of different things to different people, but our point is thisby working closely with the company, individual or non-profit to resolve any disputes that could arise, Rip-off Report can track the footprints of donor and client interaction to ensure that our non-profit CAP members are doing everything they can to treat clients fairly and to enhance the experiences of their donors.

ALL COMPANIES GET COMPLAINTS, EVEN NON-PROFITS. BUT HOW THE COMPANY HANDLES THOSE COMPLAINTS, SEPARATES GOOD BUSINESSES FROM BAD BUSINESSES.

By Ed Magedson - Founder, Rip-off Report

Modest Needs Foundation approached Rip-Off Report with the intent of wanting to resolve any legitimate client issues and reports posted on Rip-off Report. In fact, Modest Needs Foundation had already tried to contact the authors of the reports. In most cases if you view the reports, most of the clients actually retracted their statements with new positive reviews of how hard Modest Needs had worked to assist them and even admitted that in many cases, they had posted to Rip-off Report not because Modest Needs had done anything wrong, but because the client had been told by Modest Needs that it might not be possible for Modest Needs to fund the applications for assistance placed by these clients.

The few reports where no customers retracted their comments are reports where Modest Needs Foundation has been unsuccessful at reaching the authors. One report was found to have been posted by a person who had applied for assistance from Modest Needs and been told that Modest Needs could not help because, in performing due-diligence on the application, Modest Needs Foundation's employees discovered that the applicant had mischaracterized the situation she was in and did not actually qualify to receive assistance from Modest Needs Foundation. That client then threatened to post to Rip-off Report if Modest Needs did not give her money immediately. When Modest Needs Foundation refused because making a grant to a person who does not qualify for it is against the law, a false report deliberately mischaracterizing Modest Needs Foundation's practices was filed by the author. Situations like these are rare, but Modest Needs Foundation has gone through great lengths to make sure they try and resolve any and all client issues. Modest Needs Foundation has joined the Corporate Advocacy Program because they want assurance that they will always have the opportunity to review and, if possible, to resolve any and all client or donor issues. They never want their clients to feel like they weren't treated fairly. Modest Needs Stated "even though we cannot help every person who applies for our assistance, we do want our clients to know that we care about them and will do our best to help them. All they ask is that the people asking for assistance and the assistance of their donors treat Modest Needs Foundation's employees with the same kindness and respect that they except their employees to show to their potential clients."

MODEST NEEDS FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO CLARIFY WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR CLIENTS

Modest Needs Foundation www.modestneeds.org is an award-winning national charity that provides short-term financial assistance to individuals and families struggling to overcome the burden of a short-term financial crisis, like an emergency auto repair, an unexpected doctor visit, or the cost of repairing a wheelchair.

Historically, non-profit organizations have targeted the poorest of the poor, but at Modest Needs, they say that they recognize that sometimes, the best way to help someone is to prevent that person from entering the cycle of poverty in the first place. We know that a well-timed grant that keeps a person from losing everything they've worked for is the best way to promote the ongoing self-sufficiency of our clients. And when we make a grant at Modest Needs, we do so without the expectation of receiving anything in return. It doesn't cost anything to apply for help, and if we can make a grant, the only thing we ask is that our clients say 'thank you' to the donors across the country and around the world who came together and made the contributions that allowed Modest Needs to assist them.

Modest Needs Foundation/ Statements from the Founder and President.

My name is Dr. Keith P. Taylor, and I am the Founder and President of Modest Needs. I started Modest Needs in 2002 as a 'personal project,' my way of 'paying forward' the kindness that people had shown to me at the times when I needed help but didn't qualify for any conventional type of assistance. When I started Modest Needs, I pledged 10% of my personal salary - $350.00 a month - with a goal of helping just one person who was facing a short-term crisis, didn't qualify for any type of conventional 'charity,' and had nowhere else to turn. Today, after ten years of successful operation, Modest Needs is now supported by 10% of my income, plus the 'small change' of thousands of donors across the country and the world who understand the importance of helping one another through tough times. And even though we've grown, our basic principles remain the same: we verify the truth and integrity of EVERY application for assistance we receive. When we can help someone, we offer that help by paying a bill directly to a vendor; we never give cash to our funded applicants because, by paying vendors directly, we know that our donor's money paid for the expense the applicant request help with, and only that expense. We never request sensitive personal information - like social security or bank account numbers - from our applicants. We very carefully safeguard the privacy and security of the information we request from our clients. We will never sell or disclose information we receive from our donors or our clients to any third party unless the law requires us to do so (in the event that we discover that a client is attempting to obtain funding they don't actually qualify to receive). And we never, ever charge anyone for our services. If we can help someone through a short-term emergency, we're happy to do so, and the only thing we ever ask of the people we can help is that they say 'thank you' to the people who came together and made their grants possible. All the same, about 65% of the people we do help become long-term donors to Modest Needs because they too want to 'pay forward' the help they received to others in need.

How We Can Help, and How You Can Help

If you If you're experiencing a short-term financial crisis and don't qualify for other types of charitable assistance, you're welcome to apply for assistance from Modest Needs by visiting our website at www.modestneeds.org. We can't guarantee that we'll be able to help everyone who asks for our help, but we can promise that we'll do our best to try. And if you want to help someone through a short-term crisis and have a few dollars to spare, we invite you to join Modest Needs' global donor community. Because all of our costs, including salaries, are paid by grants made to us for that purpose, we can make the very most of every tax-deductible contribution you make. There's simply no charity like Modest Needs. We're proud of our work, and we know you'll be proud to work with us to make this world a better place for the low-income workers that conventional philanthropy has forgotten.

ANY BUSINESS THAT CAN ADMIT THEY MADE MISTAKES AND CORRECTS THOSE MISTAKES IS A BUSINESS YOU CAN TRUST AND WORTH DOING BUSINESS WITH .

As stated above, Modest Needs Foundation is committed to 100% providing the best possible experience for their clients and donors has made every possible effort to ensure that clients and donors have a positive interaction with Modest Needs.

After speaking with the management at Modest Needs Foundation and emailing anyone who filed a complaint in the past, Rip-off Report is proud to give Modest Needs Foundation a positive Rating. Modest Needs Foundation continues to do everything it can to assist the clients who apply for help and keeps its promise to provide a positive experience both for clients and for donors. They should be commended for their good work.

Dr. Keith Taylor, the President of Modest Needs Foundation, stated We know the easiest way to make all of our clients happy all of the time would be to have the unlimited money necessary to help all of our clients through financial crises. Unfortunately, we don't have access to those kinds of resources (yet!), but we will continue to do everything we can to assist those who come to us in a spirit of honesty and integrity through a short-term crisis, and we will continue to be good stewards of our donors' contributions."

STATED IMPROVEMENTS FROM MODEST NEEDS FOUNDATION.

In November 2009, for the first time in its (then) seven year history, Modest Needs began charging a VERY SMALL and FULLY REFUNDABLE application fee to new applicants. Modest Needs didn't charge this fee to make money (that's why the fee was refundable.) It charged this fee of $7.50 because the President of Modest Needs believed that people who were not telling the truth about their situations would never pay even a small amount of money if they knew they risked giving up that fee if Modest Needs' employees discovered and could prove that the applicant had not told the truth about his or her situation. The President's view was that by keeping insincere people from clogging up Modest Needs' system by requesting help they knew they weren't qualified to request in the first place, Modest Needs could direct all of its resources and staff towards helping the people who LEGITIMATELY needed help from Modest Needs, and who were telling the truth about their situations.

.. Ultimately, Modest Needs Foundation determined that charging this refundable fee had been a mistake. The application fee didn't help in all the ways that we'd have liked and raised questions about why Modest Needs charged a fee to apply for help, even a small, fully refundable fee. So, after a short trial period and in response to feedback from our legitimate applicants and donors, Modest Needs discontinued the application fee policy and will never implement such a policy again..

This kind of willingness to ensure its policies are in the best interests of its donors and applicants means that Modest Needs Foundation is committed to providing the very best experience for its donors and applicants.
