I recently started looking for work on the usual job websites (monster.com being one of them). Started getting phone calls from recruiters. One in particular introduced himself as the following:

Zak Russell

Recruiter - Talent Acquisition Team

Modis Talent

Tel 302.525.2174 FREE

Fax 610.548.2748

1400 N. Providence Road, #5025

Media, PA  19063

zak.russell@modis-talent.com

Problem is, the very first thing he asked for was social security #, address, and DOB. This is highly unusual of Recruiting Agencies, usually they set up an interview, have some sort of job opportunities to present etc. . I said I was not comfortable giving out that information over the phone to someone I do not know. He insisted. Sent email, sent another email with something that looked like a job opportunity, then a questionaire for my personal info.

A few minutes later after first phone call, this same individual (heavy accent) called back, said it's ok not to give all information just fill in questionaire with whatever information I am comfortable with. 8 minutes later called again, asking "When are you going to fill it out?". I said I would rather not deal with him at all, and politely asked to not call me again. At which point he said "You should take your resume off of monster if you don't want to be contacted". Which seemed very unprofessional and furthered my suspicion. I laughed and said I'd be sure to do that before hanging up.

I attempted to contact Modis at their official phone number I found on their website, kept getting robot voicemail directory, name Zak Russel, Russel, Zak or any combination of thereof does not exist in their directory listing. I never got to talk to a live person at Modis, they don't seem to pick up at reception.

Strange thing is phone number that this "Zak" individual provided is in different area code 302 (Modis office at that address is in 610), phone lookup says it is some VoIP provider (could be easily in different country). The Fax number is real Modis fax, same for physical address, can be found on their website. Also I looked around for Modis email addresses and they all end with @modis instead of @modis-talent.com . So this could be fake as well.

I do not blame Modis, nor could I speak to a real person at their agency to verify that "Zak Russel" is not employed by them. It sounds like a scammer phishing for information that is simply using information about their company that can be easily found online.
