Complaint against;

Monro Muffler/Brake & Service Store # 311
909 Hanover Street
Manchester, NH 03104

my 1st time at Monro;

I had just moved from the state of Arizona to NH, my best friend is a mechanic and he just opened a shop but didnt have all the equipment in his shop for me to get any work done yet. I ended up taking my car to monro in Manchester because my car was making a sqealing and crunching sound everytime I came to a stop so I thought it was my breaks. The mechanic tried to rip me off because I am a woman by saying it was going to be over $400 plus labor for the new break pads and shoes. I called my friend and told them how much they were going to charge me and he said get the hell out of there! So, my friend and I went to advanced auto parts and got the front break pads and shoes (I got the Wagner ThermoQuiet; OE Replacement; Semi-Metallic for 63.49) and the rear break pads and shoes Wagner ThermoQuiet; OE Replacement; Semi-Metallic for 56.49) I chose those because they are the best and took it down to my friends new shop and we installed them together in about a half hour- 45 min on a large jack so I paid 119.98 all together and no labor because I actually installed them myself with the help of my friends instructions. here's the kicker, when i was at Monro's before i left they tried to say that my rotors were warped and they could fix them for $300 plus labor when i know my friend could get all 4 of them for me at $50 bucks because he is a shop owner AND if i was to purchase them without him it would cost around 84 dollars for front and back and Monro said it would take at least 2 hours to put on the new rotors and it took me a woman 10 minutes to put 4 new rotors on my car!

2nd time complaint; no where else to go!

Paul the Mgr was Rude and very unprofessional. I hit a huge pothole on my way home from work and there was a HUGE bubble on the side of my tire I was right next to Monro on my way home so I stopped there and asked if he could help, he rejected me and told me to leave and that he had no time for me when 3 bays were open and empty and it was only 5pm and the shop closes at 7pm and it was just 1 tire. I was stranded because he was too lazy to deal with me. I honestly think this is discrimination.

3rd and last complaint EVER 3/30/2009

I went in to have a state vehicle inspection done to my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.My car was off the road because my Arizona plates had expired and this is the first time I registered my car in NH so I only had so much time to get a sticker. my trusted mechanic friend did not have emmission test equipment yet in his shop. Unfortunately Monro was the only place that was open until 7pm and I work until 4:30pm and do not get home until after 5pm and the new state inspections take at least 30-45 min to complete.

I went back at the time the store manager Paul told me to come and get my car I saw the mgr in the bay area loosening the bolts on my front left tire he then told me to follow him into the bay area and shook my tire back and forth telling me that I needed a front left wheel bearing before he could pass my inspection. I explained to him that my mechanic and I just replaced the brakes and the rotors on all four tires and replaced the front 2 wheel bearings (I know this because we did it together!) when my car was put back on the road a week ago. Paul tired telling me that the 2 wheel bearing and hub assembly would cost me over $800 dollars, which if you look it up at advanced auto parts the highest price for the Wheel bearing and hub assembly is $196.00 and the labor is about an hour or less.

Paul the Mgr called the police on me when I stated in front of his customers that he was trying to rip me off, he said I threatened him and in no way is saying your ripping me and other people off a threat. He tried belittling me in front of his customers telling me I know nothing about cars because I am a woman and I have no idea what I am talking about (even though I have a best friend who has been a mechanic for over 15 years and we work on my car together as stated above. Paul told me to leave the premises and never set foot back here again or else, so in reality Paul threatened me, the customer.

Paul the mgr never gave me a rejection sticker so I could have time to get my car fixed because he rejected my emissions test so incase I got pulled over I would be able to explain to the law enforcement officer that I have time to get it checked. I already know there is nothing wrong with the car but I don't want to get into trouble with the law because he refuses to do his job.

The Manchester, NH Monro is a rip off they charge you for outrageous parts and labor that only takes 20 minutes and goes to work on other vehicles so when you come back they say it took 2 hours to do the work to your vehicle and charge you 200 labor on top of the rip off prices they give you for parts that do not even need to be fixed in the car/truck.

Complaints from Monro employee's - Dec 2008

I worked for monro muffler and brake for about 6 years. I started out as a mechanic. In about 6 months I became an asst. manager. Things weren't too bad. After about a year I became manager and was pushed around from store to store for awhile (Learning all the tricks of the trade). Finally they put me in my own store that's when things started to get worse.

Always wanting me to oversee the mechanics in the shop to make sure the parts were getting sold. This went on for awhile. They kept bi**hing about it. So after I was manager for about 6 months or so, I gave it up and went back to just being a mechanic. Time went on.

One day an older lady came in for an estimate on her car. She had a coupon that was in the newspaper for 10 percent off any repairs. After the manager figured out the bill for repairs he added 20 percent to the labor then subtracted the 10 percent for the coupon. In the end she was paying 10 percent more than regular price. I couldn't take it anymore. I told the lady what was going on. She brought her son back with her and I explained to him what was happening. That was my last day. I quit.

This is the kind of people that run the monro muffler and brake stores, and the district managers are the ones running them. So they are no good either,

The store manager was doing a front brake job on a customer's car. During the job he was removing a front rotor and while beating the rotor he snapped the ABS ring. He then applied JB weld to the ring to 'TRY' to fix the ABS ring he broke. The customer came back to get the car later and he did not inform the customer of breaking said ABS ring. The next day the customer returned to the store because of her ABS light being on and upon further inspection the ABS ring snapped and broke the ABS sensor. The store manager 'MIKE' charged the customer over $460 to replace the ring and sensor that he broke. A lot of shady work goes on in this store. I have seen it first hand with my own eyes. Just a warning to all 'Don't GO Here'...
