I started receiving phone calls in 2012. Someone stating that I had taken out a payday loan in 2010, and never paid it back. and that if I didn't take care of it today, then they were going to have to proceed with legal action. They said I owed an outstanding amount of $622.00, and wanted to know if I would like to take care of today. They said if I was smart, then I should pay it now, because everyday I put off not taking care of this, the more I'm going to have to pay. These people kept calling me on a regular basis, and when I kept hanging up on them, they started calling me at my job, as well as my parrents house. The calls would cease for a while, and then they would start right back up again. I blocked their phone number from my phone, but then they started emailing me.I have been so stressed over this. The phone calls started up again about two weeks ago.

You are not going to be arrested

This is a very common scam and that is all it is..a scam.

So what ever you do, NEVER pay them a single penny.  As all that will do is let them know they have a "live one" and if you think it is bad now, wait until you get 2 or 3 times the calls and threats...again ALL SCAMS.

A few "tipoffs", the first one being an obvious one.  The e-mail address you came from?  No legitimate company(or the US Government) won't use a FREE email account such as gmail.

Other tip off's include them wanting you to make an immediate payment.  Also, since these people are not in the US they will often have very thick foreign accents and anything in writing will have a lot of gramatical issues.

You can let them know this is a scam, and that may get them to stop.  You could also have some fun and play along with them...such as saying you are going to turn yourself in.  After all the more time they waste on you the less time they have to try and get someone else.
