      I have had Motorists Mutual as my Insurance Company for about 10 years. I had a home fire which destroyed everything I own. After A month of living with releatives . even though I have a loss of use policy. I finally get a place rented for me about 1/4 of the size of my home. Motorists was kind enough to pay 16 dollars a day for 3 people to be sheltered and fed. (Notice the sarcasm).
This was after they tried to get me to stay in the burnt home.

  Then The Estimates for repairs started . I had contacted more than 7 contractors to do the job and none of them wanted to repair because it would be easier and cheaper to rebuild. Motorists insisted on a repair. After I got estimates for Motorists for the mechanicals they decided that they were going to hire thier own to lowball the contractors I had hired. And did not have the same amount of work being done by the contractors. ( leaving out the demolition of the mechanicals)
refusing to pay my contractors leaving me with a 10000.00 dollar gap in price.

    The Insurance adjuster had no contractor experience. The kitchen was described and payout was based on 4 sink base cabinets and 9 LF of wall cabinets. There were actually about 40 lf of cabinets. Estimates were about 10 percent of replacement cost . All other material prices and lobor were the same . But they wont provide that labor or material for you at that price they just set it.


        I had to hire my own structual engineer because theres did not find any damage to the home.
even though I have a 20 foot by 30 foot hole in the middle of my home and the walls are pushing out.  No reimbursement for that .

   The roof is leaking in several different places . Motorists refuses to pay for that . Studs are black and they will not pay to seal or replace them. Total rooms are left out of the bid. I have what I believe to be black mold in areas of the house from the water soaked insulation and drywall standing for 3 months. They will not address that.

    The only concern Motorists has expressed to me is the dollar amount of the claim. If I take the case to court I will lose my temporary housing  from Motorists stopping payment but they refuse to give me the amout of the bid to fix the home. 


  After accusing me of delaying the repairs. They have finally quit accepting my phone calls and sent me a check for 50% of repair costs holding 10% depreciation. saying they will consider giving it to me if I do the repairs.

  Burn joists, holes in the floor, leaking roof, caving in , no clothes , no reinbursement for costs of fuel, work loss, groceries and about half the money to repair my home. I would highly recomend to get a different insurance company if you carry Motorists. 

   I have never made a home claim before in the years I have been with them . I wish I would have known the type of Company I had hired to be  the security of all my possessions. Instead Im probably headed for bankruptcy because of a bad choice.
