Researched a number of websites to purchase British GP tickets over a few weeks as I wanted to buy weekend tickets in a good position on the track.
I eventually settled on www.motorracetickets.com which looked like a professional site no different to the other ticket sites I visited. It had good graphics of the track with information on the different ticket types and positions along the track.
I purchased 2 tickets for Copse C Fri-Sunday Total price: 655.2 EUR on 30 May 2008. There was nothing unusual about the online payment system. I bought the tickets using my personal Maestro card.I received a confirmation email telling me I had successfully purchased the tickets
On 1 June I contacted the website through their online query form enquiring whether there was a possibility of a refund and received an email in response confirming i could get a refund.
The money left my account on 2 June to: 30MAY08 1653 , EXECPRODUCTS, S.L., ORIHUELA COST ESP , EUR 670.20, RATE 1.2695, CHARGE 14.52, ERTF 1.25
I tried to contact Motorracetickets.com on Monday 30 June to let them know I hadn't received my tickets. I went to the website but it wasn't live with a notice saying Account Suspended. Through google searches I was able to access cached webpages and found a contact number there was an answerphone message with no means of leaving details.
I emailed the info@motorracetickets.com to ask about ticket delivery details obviously there was no response. I contacted UPS who were obviously unable to assist and had no record of www.motorracetickets.com and without a valid shipping number could not assist.
I contacted Silverstone and British GP to ask whether they had sold bulk tickets to the Motorracetickets.com but had no information.
I contacted my bank and informed them that I thought I was a victim of fraud. They told me to contact the police and trading standards as there was nothing they could do. I had voluntarily entered my details onto the website therefore I wasn't technically a victim of fraud.
I notified the police who told me to contact Trading Standards and issued me with a crime reference number.
Trading Standards said there was nothing they could do as the payment was made to an account in Spain and told me I should have paid for it with a credit card as they would cover any loss but a non credit card wouldn't.
