My move started in Charlottesville, VA on April 29, 2006 when the movers showed up. I had contracted with them to move my goods to Urbana, IL. On the phone, "Ira" in their sales department assured me that the delivery would be in "2-4 days" but possibly up to 10 days, tops, at most.

Wrong!!!! I'm still waiting for them to show up, on May 12.

When the movers showed, they told me that the binding estimate was no good, as I had understated my inventory. They then offered me one flat fee for only $2,000.00 more than the original cost.

I didn't have that kind of money as I am going through a nasty divorce, and so I turned to my cousin in Alexandria, VA for financial help. She authorized the transaction with these guys and they proceeded to move my contents into their truck. But things seemed really bizarre when the head mover started picking and choosing what of my belongings could go and what they wouldn't accept! And, I, of course, ran around, making sure the movers knew what was valuable so they could take the necessary precautions to protect my items. After all, it was my first move, and I was stressed.

I found out three days later, that my "goods" had been taken to a Baltimore warehouse, where they would sit, until I gave them appropriate answers to some questions they had regarding my cousin. They wanted to know her birthdate, the credit card# again, the security code on the back of her card, and other questions.

Well, I'm still waiting for my stuff! I'm scared to death!

I HAVE A SIMILAR COMPLAINT

AUTHOR: Aleasia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 24, 2006

Margaret:

I have a similar complaint against Ira with The Moving Experts, Inc. (Chicago) who recommended Diamond Van Lines out of Pembroke Pines, FL for my move. I have yet to receive the remainder of my shipment and have paid the "additional" high cost that was assessed on my shipment after I was given a quote. I strongly suggest you contact the FBI in your city and file an online fraud complaint against The Moving Experts as I have. Also, file complaints with Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau as well to have a complaint on file for these people. They should not be allowed to get away with this. This company clearly has fraudulent and unethical business practices and should not be allowed to stay in business.

Margaret,

Your cousin should contact her credit card company IMMEDIATELY and let them know that her security has been compromised. She can have a new card issued to her account and get it within a couple days.

Then you should call the Maryland Attorney General and tell them both about this attempted credit card fraud (what else could it be?) and the moving issues. If they are refusing to move your goods until you have answered these innappropriate questions, they are holding your goods hostage.

You should also call the Department of Transportation (1-866-DOT-SAFT), as well as the DOT's Office of the Inspector General at 800-424-9071, to file complaints and see if the move can be compelled to be delivered.
