My wife and I purchased a ring from Mr. Diamond back in June of this year in the diamond district in NYC.  We reviewed the diamond districts suggested stores and this was the first that we visited.  Upon entering the folks that worked there (Roman is the manager) were polite and courteous.  We settled on a diamond eternity band for my wife's anniversary and paid a fair price for the ring.  After leaving the store we took the ring to an independent appraiser in NYC who confirmed that ALL of the specs on the ring did not meet the specifications of what we had purchased.  Worst of all the ring had broken diamonds in it and the first appraiser said that we should get them fixed and reset.

This is where our nightmare began with Mr. Diamond USA.  Mr. Diamond USA had us send them the ring along with the report from the independent gemologist so they could verify the ring.  They told us over the next few days that they were fixing the ring and that it would be perfect.  When we received the ring again we then took it to TWO more independent jewelers to be looked at.  Not only was the carat weight off by a full carat, but the clarity was off, and there were still TWO broken stones.  Unbelievable!  Trying to work with them, we agreed to send the ring to them for a second time to repair their (Mr. Diamond USA) shoddy craftsmanship.  This time they had the audacity to force us to pay a $250 resetting fee to get the ring back.  We have since filed a chargeback for this now that the ring is in our possession.

We received the ring for the second time and upon going to get a second opinion, not only is the carat weight and clarity of the ring still horrible; there are still two broken stones!!!! Tried to call them and resolve again, and asked for a refund as they are obvious scam artists!  They said that there are no refunds and that they cannot do anything.  We have since reported them to diamonddistrict.org, the jewelers vigilance board, the better business bureau, and most recently we are opening a civil case against them.  We hope that anyone who is considering purchasing anything from the Diamond District in NYC learn from our mistakes and especially stay AS FAR AWAY as possible from the fraudulent scam artists at Mr. Diamond USA.  You are better off purchasing from a reputable dealer, we thought that we were that has a return policy and does not rip their customers off.  Mr. Diamond USA is truly a SCAM!!!!!

Diamond Jewelry Education

AUTHOR: Mr. Diamond USA - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Dear Customers,

I am writing on behalf of Mr. Diamond USA retail store. The response to this feedback does not
serve to defend ourselves but rather to educate the consumer when it comes to
purchasing jewelry with diamonds.

It is a well know factor that taking a diamond ring to an independent jeweler is not a good idea because he/she does not have enough knowledge and experience in gradind a diamond. To grade a diamond is an experience in GIA and one needs to go to a gemological school to even consider grading it. In order for one to grade a diamond, one must first remove it completely from the ring and even then, a jeweler can give only an approximation. The only one who is qualified grading the diamond is the certified gemologists and even then you may find among different gemologists that the results could be slightly off. Just like two different doctors could give different results, so to different gemologists could give different results. Therefore, one must first trust his/her jeweler completely and if one purchases a diamond ring, should not go to an independent jeweler to grade it. Another issue which may occur is in jewelry is cracks in the diamonds. Some diamonds, other than round, have corners and when set on the prong setting, tend to crack easily. As a result diamonds with corners are more expensive because it is difficult to set them. Your business is very important to us and as you have witnessed, we accommodate our customers no matter what and even though an independent jeweler only had given his/her opinion about a diamond and not a fact, we still took it to our gemologist to verify. We have been in business for twenty one years and, I will not lie, we had some unhappy customers but we made sure that at the end, we are proud to say that they were completely satisfied.
