On March 12, 2013, I checked out of 614 Blue Jay in Davenport, Fl., in the Sandy Ridge Development. I had rented this house from Mary Xu, from Greenvilladisney.com, and Odvermanagement.com, in Chalfont, Pa., for 43 nights.
The property management for 614 Blue Jay, in Davenport, Fl., was Multi-Choice Management, of 16605 Sunrise Lake Blvd., and 16822 Sunrise Vista Drive, in Clermont, Fl.
I had given Mary Xu $300 security deposit to be refunded after leaving the premises.
From the moment I entered the premises, I noticed stains all over the carpet along with several other issues pertaining to sheets, dishes, etc., that were missing, along with a broken safety bar on the glass-slidding door, a lack of brooms and mops, and problems with the comfort of the beds, and initially entering the house due to the lock.
I called Mary Xu, who refered me to L'tasha M. Huyghue, the person representing Multi-choice Management, LLC. Ms. Huyghue came several times, and was helpful in fixing some of the things, but not others. My legitimate calls to her apparently caused her to become defensive, and she began to wear an attitude.
After the 43 nights were over, and after we had cleaned the house from top to bottom, as we always do, even though it is not a required chore, according to the contract, I was surprised to find out via Mary Xu, that Ms. Huyghue, had asked her to hold back the security check because there were dog-stains on the carpeting, hairs, and the vacuum cleaning was full. The same stains that I had reported to Mary Xu, and Ms. Huyghue, from the very beginning. My dog is fully-trained to go out four times' per day, and does not shed.
These accusations were totally false.
I contacted Multi-Choice Management Ceo, Jian Song, who never answered my query, as well as Ms. Huyghue. Finally, Mary Xu sided with them, and I was sent back $150 by Mary, out of $300 initial security.
What I have learned from this incident is that there appears to be a collusion between agents and property managers to steal the security money out of unsuspecting victims, in the vacation short-term rentals industry, that needs to be addressed by the State of Florida, or whomever is issuing these LLC's licenses. This industry needs to be regulated.
Also, my recommendation is that, from the beginning that any one enters a rented property, take photos before and after. I did not do it, because I trust people maybe too much.
Also, many of these places do not accept credit cards, unless you pay 4% of the total bill, which can be very pricey, in my case of 43 nights, and over a $3,400 bill for my stay.
