I wanted to tell you a little bit about my past experiences with Murrieta Volkswagen. Unlike the other testimonials referenced on this page, my experience has been quite different. Every time I go there I come out feeling cheated and unhappy...but if it helps they did do it with a smile (I hope you can sense my sarcasm in my typing).

My first experience with Murrieta VW was when I took my car in for its scheduled maintenance. After receiving repairs I was informed that my car was ready for pick-up. To my surprise when I received my car there was pen ink all over my leather seats. After seeing this (before I even left the car lot) I walked back into the dealership and told them that there was blue ink all over my seat. Before even looking at my car, they stated that the ink must have been there when they got it. I laughed, because there is no way with the amount of fresh ink that was on my leather seats that it was there prior to me bringing it in for service. I asked them to please come out to take a look at it. After reviewing my car they knew that it was not something that I had done and that I was in fact telling the truth. They then took my car back in the garage for a little bit and proceeded to try and clean the seat. Unfortunately when returned for the second time I found that the ink was still there and very noticeable. They said that they did the best that they could do. I told them that they had to do more and asked to speak with the manager. After going back and forth with the manager a week or so later he had a guy come out and professionally bleach/clean/re-stain my seats. Had it not been for my persistence in calling them they would have simply swept me under the rug.

My second experience with Murrieta VW was eye opening to say the least. I took my car in for maintenance... again. After my car was in the shop for a few hours I got a phone call from the service manager stating that after inspecting my car they found that the rear blinker signal was not working because of what appeared that an animal had chewed through it. (This was not an issue nor the reason that I had taken my car in, but simply something that they noticed) He went on to state that this was a MAJOR safety issue and that in his professional opinion he felt that it needed to be dealt with immediately. I started to question which light he was referencing and through multiple questioning I finally found out that it wasn't the rear blinker but it was that little blinker that was on the side of the door (which is not a HUGE safety issue as he explained). At this point I felt that I was being taken advantage of and that they were trying to get me to spend more because I was a girl and that I wouldn't know what it was that they were trying to over charge me for... Feeling very uneasy I told them to not touch my car and that they did not have my permission to make any of the suggested repairs on my car. They agreed. When I went in later that evening to pick up my car the services manager laughed and said "you are gonna think this is funny." I asked what he meant and he explained that the repair guys thought that I was going to want them to fix the blinker on my car, so they went ahead and started on it. I told him that I said that I did not want the repair and asked him to show me what they did. When I went out to the car he showed me the wires that he said were chewed through by an animal. After viewing them I said "that looks like a clean cut, NOT an animal chew." He stated "that's why you are gonna think this is funny... my guys cut the wires because they thought you were going to have it fixed." I stated "how do I know that the wires were chewed and that you weren't just lying and cut my wires to up sell me. He stated that I would just have to take his word for it. At this time I was very upset. I understood that the wires were probably chewed through as they stated... but I felt that they handled it very poorly and left me feeling cheated... I drove off the lot cut wires and all and vowed to never return to Murrieta VW.

I just recently started having issues with my car because it was shifting weird and it was having problems going up hills. I figured that some time had passed (years) and that I would give Murrieta VW one more chance. When I took my car in I explained to the guy that I was having issues with my car. I told him that I had had some bad experiences with them in the past and that I was a little uneasy about going there again. He tried to reassure me and told me that he would take care of me. I gave him my keys and agreed to pay $99 to have them inspect the car to find out what was wrong with it. He called me later in the day to tell me that he had someone test drive my car and they found that the clutch was slipping. He told me that they were going to have to keep it over night and that they will look further into it and get back to me the following day. The next day I received a phone call from the service guy informing me that the clutch was slipping. I told him that we already knew that and had asked if they found anything new wrong with the car. He informed me that they could not find anything wrong using a visual inspection and that he was calling to see if they could inspect further. Confused, I had him re-explain to me what exactly he was telling me and exactly what I was paying for with my $99. He told me that normally inspections are for only an hour and that mine went over an hour and that he went ahead and did a few minutes for free... shocked I asked well what was it that you did in the inspection that took you over an hour to investigate?  He danced around with his words and restated that he did not see anything wrong with the actual clutch but that he would need to take a closer look by removing my transmission to take a closer look. Confused I question why the whole transmission of a car would need to be removed to check the clutch. I asked if they removed the transmission just to look at the clutch behind it if that would include the cost to fix it. He told me that it would not include the cost of any fix.... Upset and confused I told him that I would have my husband call him and that he would make the decision as to whether or not we would move forward. My husband called and told him not to do anything to the car and that we would pick it up in a little bit. When I went to pick up my car and read the documents that they wrote up on my car. They were as follows: CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE SHIFTING WEIRD. CUSTOMER STATES WHEN GOING UP HILL VEHICLE RPMS WILL GO UP BUT VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR CORRECTLY. VERIFIED BY TECHNICIAN 429, THAT CLUTCH SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING IN ALL GEARS. INSPECT AND ADVISE. VERIFIED CONCERN, RECOMMEND REMOVAL OF TRANSMISSION TO VISUALLY INSPECT CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE AND FLYWHEEL FOR WEAR AND DAMAGE. TECHNICIAN ROAD TESTED VEHICLE AND VERIFIED CONCERN, RACKED VEHICLE AND INSPECTED TRANSMISSION HOUSING AND LINKAGES. FOUND TRANSMISSION RIGHT AXLE FLANGE LEAKING (this was a red flag. over the phone the guy told me that they didn't find anything during the inspection!!!!) RECOMMENDED REMOVAL OF TRANSMISSION TO VISUAL INSPECT CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE AND FLYWHEEL TO MAKE PROPER RECOMMENDATION OF REPAIR AND ADVISE IF ANY FURTHER (the key word here is further... meaning they found a leak but told me they found nothing and that I would have to remove the transmission to see the problem) LEAKS INSIDE BELLHOUSINGOF TRANSMISSION, NOTE TEST DROVE VEHICLE ON PARKING LOT, DID NOT TAKE OUT ON STREET DUE TO TRANSMISSION ISSUE (this was news to me... I told them that my car was having problems going up hills and they didn't even test it on a hill as they stated they would... the car is not having transmission issues... it is having clutch issues... as if all this isn't bad enough at the bottom of my invoice it stated the scheduled additions to my bill they were going to try and add on. REPLACING AXLE FLANGE SEAL LEAKING OIL $209.00... BRAKE SYSTEM FUSH $110.95 (I WAS NOT EVEN HAVING BRAKE ISSUES... THEY JUST WANTED TO ADD ON MORE FEES)...INDUCTION FUEL FILTER WITH FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH $198.50 (DID NOT ASK FOR OR NEED THIS). TEARDOWN INSPECTION OF TRANSMISSION $594.00... CLUTCH KIT REPLACEMENT$1709.41 (SEE THEY ALREADY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS... IT WAS THE CLUTCH...

I have sense then taken my car to another reputable car repair shop. The guy told me WITHOUT taking out the transmission, that the car needed a new clutch. I asked him how he could tell the clutch was bad without taking out the transmission? He told me that he did not need to remove the transmission to see the problem; it could be view easily with the transmission intact. With service, new clutch and everything my total cost was $1,500 sure beats Murrieta VWs estimated costs of almost $3,000!!!! That is a huge difference in todays economy.

As you can see my experience with Murrieta VW has been horrible to say the least. They take advantage of girls because they think they can throw out big tough car words and scare them with telling them that things are MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES they also LOVE to add in frivolous costs and find (or create) problems with your car to make you spend more.

... I have told my story to Dan Gardner the General Manager... and while he was sympathetic... he informed me that he does not feel that they are rude towards women and that that couldn't be because they have one service person named Karen on staff who is clearly a women.

cant wait for my Murrieta VW service survey to come out

 ... good luck girls

This dealership goes out of its way to treat each customer honestly and fairly.  The repair protocol followed is set by the manufacturer of the vehicle and it states that a teardown be performed to find the root cause.  This allows us to find the cause of the problem versus the result of the problem.  The teardown would have revealed either the need to replace the clutch assembly or showed signs of another issue causing the clutch to prematurely wear.  Once the teardown had been completed then the consumer is given a choice to replace the components with factory or other non factory alternatives via the customers request.  Pricing of the repair would surely differ based on the quality of the material used, normally the factory parts would reflect the stringent guidelines used by the manufacturer and could result in a higher price in comparison to some of the alternative parts in the market place.  Once given the opportunity to provide our customer with exact information on the needed repairs , options can be investigated in order to give the consumer options on prices and materials.  The teardown estimate is quoted at the onset of repairs, but upon finding the cause the removal of the transmission would be included in the teardown estimate since any repair made would involve removal of the transmission to gain access to the clutch.

I cannot tell if the First tech you dealt with is a #($% or not almost every shop has at least one shady employee However, I have seen rats/mice chew wires cleanly thru.

How ever, many places if they have no record of a brake flush and if the fluid is discolored will recommend a flush. Why they wanted to remove your transmission was to verify you needed a flywheel. Most of the time you do the book time for most VW trans removal is 4 hours but most dealers charge 6 hours for that. Your tech probably did a worst-case est. for you transmission repair. That shop saying they can see all the transmission components thru the inspection hole is lying. In the past 5 years of working for Audi/VW, you have always had to remove the transmission to inspect the flywheel. The dealer cannot even buy factory flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing for the price of the after market set which is about $600-800. I have had a side shop do this for a customer and Install a non duel mass flywheel and thought we were scamming them when they needed a clutch job 5K after the had it done. The price of the labor and parts for the clutch job is about dealer standard.

Just remember if you do not like the job a tech did for you can request a different one next time you go to the dealer or side shop. In addition, when you find one you like request him every time!

I am sorry for your dissatisfaction for your dealer. I work hard at being the tech with the fewest come backs, but some people don't want to pay the price for a job done right and will go to the place that will do repairs that I would never do on my car. Some customers have complaints that is just out of this world(I.E. When you fixed my transmission seals, you switched my motor also to a different type)
