Similar to the report filed on 4/9/05 about My Perfect Credit, I did a search for a free credit report and followed a link to a site that offerred all 3 credit reports FREE. They wanted name, address, SS, and authorization to charge $1 to my credit card. I remember reading the "Terms and Conditions" at the time and remember there was no obligation unless I later decided to use repair services they offered.

I gave them the info but later got 2 charges on my credit card, one for $30 and one for $34.75. I went to myperfectcredit.com and used the "contact" link to email them about the charges. They emailed me back and said I had signed up for membership and gave me a link to access my "account." Although I had never been issued membership information, I went to the website and got my membership info by putting in my SS number.

I "cancelled" my account after seeing charges amounting to $400 and called my credit card company to dispute the charges. Although they were aprehensive over the phone because I had admitted to giving my credit card info to the company, I was adament about disputing the charge since I had only agreed to the $1 charge. I just got a letter from my credit card company along with an attached letter from My Perfect Credit. Not only are they saying that if I continue to persue this "chargeback" or dispute, they will forward it to a collection agency and send report to all 3 credit bureaus, they are saying that I am responsible for all charges on my account up until the time it was cancelled, which I assume is at least $400.

I was tempted to agree to pay the $64.75 to avoid the future problems associated with them possibly putting a negative claim on my credit reports, but this means that they will still keep charging me. I was stupid not to print out the terms and conditions at the time and now I can't even locate the "offer" I signed up for on the web.

Their website says they only enroll through their affiliates and do not link to any affiliate websites. The Rip Off Report Editor has offerred advise previously on this particular scam, but in regards to credit card charges by this company, your advise ends with disputing the charge. I have read from other consumers that this company does follow through with threats both to send it to a collection agency and to put it on your credit report and I'd like to avoid this, but I'm not sure I can. I would like some advise how how to proceed from this point.
