This is a same day service company. When I called Monday Nov-6-2006 My Plumber could only service my kitchen sink Tuesday. WE agreed they would come on Friday, Nov 10. The plumber came Thursday. told my wife I had authorized the job. Worked for 35 minutes. After solving the problem charge $ 281.89. No parts, no complication. Just "snake the drain line."

My wife, informed that I had authorized the charge argued that this was excessive. A discount of $ 25.00 was given. The original charge of $ 306.89 was reduced to $ 281.89 for a 25 minutes job.

This comes to about $ 600.00 per hour. It is too much.

I called them several times. Today a manager - Kerry - called back. She could give me a 10% discount. I declined.

Why did I decline?
- I never promised to pay $ 286.89 as the plumber told my wife.
- It was not a urgent service.
- I called 5 firm. The highest quote was $ 175.00 for same day service. One company would charge 36.00 for the visit and $ 50.00 per hour.

Do you want to be overcharged?
Do you want wait for "same day service"?
Do you want to fooled?
Do you want a firm where the managers are in meetings all the time- it took them 3 days to answer the phone.

Who Signed the Contract?

AUTHOR: Kirsten - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 28, 2006

Did your wife sign a contract? If she did, she obligated herself to pay for services rendered. Most plumbing and HVAC companies do not charge by the hour anymore, they have changed to a flat rate system, which can benefit the customer. Paying by the flat rate system means that the company will quote a price for work to be done at which time the customer has the right to accept or decline services.

With pay by the hour companies they will quote you an hourly fee over the phone but what they fail to tell you is the the hour will start when the tech has been dispatched (not when actually starting a job), you will also be paying for trips to the parts store, as well as, if they only work for 15 minutes most will charge you a full hour. So what you think will only cost you $135 might turn into $600.

Also, you can not go by phone quotes. Most of the time the person answering your call has never performed the work and does not know your situation or what it will take to fix it. The only true comparison of prices are when you have companies out giving you estimates.

If you feel that paying professional prices are too much, then go to your local equipment rental store and rent a snake yourself and attempt to clear the line. Gaurantee that after attempting to snake the line yourself for hours and not getting anywhere you will appreciate the expertise of the professional!
