I first found of Joe's puppy mill back in April 2009 when I was taking my puppy to a training course. There I met the nicest people whom had just purchased their Maltipoo and were extremely happy. I got Joe's number and contacted him about getting a puppy right away. I should have known that his sales tactics were a scam. He told me I should come as soon as possible because the puppies were going fast. That should have been the first red flag but I really wanted a puppy for my mom. It was already about 7:30PM by the time I got down to his house. His house was run down and the puppies were in wired cages, that should have been my second sign. Reputable breeders don't typically have you come over at any hour of the day to buy a puppy lt alone have them in disgusting cages with no food or water. I was a novice at this game so I had no idea what to expect. When I got there, there were plenty of adorable puppies, not just the 3 he had claimed to have on the phone. I saw the most beautiful apricot colored puppy and she ran right up to me and sat curled up at my foot. She was less than 2 lbs but so beautiful. My puppy Misha barked and snarled at her and the entire family the entire time, I should have known that was a warning.

After I purchased the littel darling puppy I took her home. She seemed completely fine, playing and running around my condo happy. The other 2 pooches I had in the house didn't really want to play with her. I figured it was because she was so tiny they didn't want to harm her. Chloe ate her entire cup of Nutro Ultra puppy food with no hesitation. The next morning I put her in the crate since I would be at work all day. When I came home during lunch to let Chloe out I could hear whining and screeching sounds as I came in the door. I quickly went to the crate to find Chloe covered in diarhea and smeared all over the crate. I panicked and opened the crate and cleaned it out immediately giving her a full bath. She calmed down but she would not drink or eat anything. I called Joe immediately to inquire about what was going on. He gave me the excuse that my puppy was just under stress and not to worry about things.

A few hours later I tried to feed Chloe again but she wouldn't eat. All she wanted to do was crawl under my bed and sleep. She even stayed in the bathroom while the other two pooches slept on the bed. I called Joe again and expressed my concerns for Chloe. He told me I was worrying too much and not to worry about it, just puppy stress. I was concerned because Chloe finally would drink water but she wouldn't eat anything. As soon as she drank water she would throw it right back up. Finally in the evening after calling several times with no response Joe finally answered. He blamed me for animal neglect and said that I had fed the wrong food for Chloe. He had not given me any food when I picked up Chloe because he was out. He also told me the food he purchased was only available at Petsmart and that since it was past 9pm they were closed. He told me to just give the puppy some other dog food for now till the next morning where I could give her something else. I followed all his instructions and yet he came back and blamed me for everything. He did not take any responsibility for any of his actions. The next night after a long day of worrying and stressing out about what to do Chloe had a seizure. I called the doctor on call that night and they gave me directions to take Chloe to an ER if needed. I tried calling Joe the entire night with no response. According to his health guarantee I was not to take any medical action until I had cleared it with him. I had followed everything on his b.s. list to a T till then. After her seizuer Chloe seemed to run along just fine which was weird. The doc said not to worry about it and bring her first thing in the morning for examination. I did just as the doc had ordered and the next morning we had an ER visit. Chloe was in the office for 8 hours with IV tubes stuck up her legs for testing and feedings of nutrical. She had low blood sugar and was completely limp and lifeless. When I went to pick her up at the doctor she seemd back to her normal self again. Little did I know this was the turning point to our ordeal. Less than a week after our ER visit Chloe had a seizure and died suddenly. She started spitting up her food and had diarrhea flooding. It was the most disgusting and horrific scene. I called Joe several times and he ignored me. He blamed me for everything and took no responsibility. I had even taken Chloe back to him to take care of after the ER visit and he claimed she was fine. I did not see her for 5 days and when I finally got her back she seemed so happy to be back in my arms again.

The day she died I rushed her out to Castroville since he wouldn't pick up his calls. I probably shouldn't have gone there alone since that place looks like a meth lab under cover. I didn't care, I was in tears and my heart had been torn apart because Chloe was very ill. During my drive Chloe looked in my eye one last itme before her head rolled back and she became lifeless. I cried even more and panicked because I didn't know if she was dead or not...until now I'd never seen anything die before so I didn't know if their eyes would close or not. When I got to Joe's I was pounding on their door furiously waiting for them to open. Sylvia was lying on the couch drunk and probably drugged up. She dragged herself up and looked at me like I was some stranger. By this time I had several interactions with them and stopped by their place several times demanding my money back, replace the puppy, reimburse medical fees, etc so I was no stranger. She got Joe and he came out and took my lifeless baby and threw her in the trash. I asked him what he was doing and he just laughed this evil laugh "sorry man you're dogs dead!!" and walked off nonchalantly as if nothing happened. I was in tears at this point and filled with rage. How could anyone that claims to be running a reputable breeding place act the way he just did. He blamed me for the puppy dying. Saying that I took her to a vet to seek medical advice against his wishes. I took her to an expensive vet when I could have taken her to a cheaper place. When prompted on good vets he wasn't able to tell me except give me an intersection in San Antonio. He also said that my 5 month Maltese puppy that weighed 4.5 lbs SCARED Chloe to death. That Misha probably BIT Chloe and that's why Chloe died, from rabies that Misha had been carrying. This guy was full of ridiculous excuses and he kept going around in circles when I confronted him about anything. He is the epitome of a d****e bag and no one should buy a dog from him. After further research I've found that I am not the only victim and that he has done this to several others. He did finally replace a new puppy with me even after I adamentley demanded that I not get another puppy. I was completely traumatized with the first experience that I couldn't handle another horrible experience. He didn't care, he wouldn't refund my money or anything. I went and got the biggest puppy I could find at his puppy mill and took her immediately to the vet. Not to anyones suprise but Lily had cocidia and luckily was treatable. It's been 4 months now since we got the puppy and Lily is a happy puppy. She still has some problems but I think she is better with my mom than at his place. I wish I could have saved all of those puppies but the only way to save those puppies is to shut him down. To spread the word so he doesn't sell any more sick puppies to anyone else.

If you want a puppy pay the extra money to get from a reputable breeder. The money you save up front isn't anything compared to the heartache you'll endure when you get a sick puppy. Also, the costly medical bills that come along with it just isn't worth it.
