We sent our son to Colorado Springs February 19 with Nathan Hardage to receive Intensive Outpatient Therapy. He was to live in a sover living home, but have daily group, weekly one-on-one therapy, AA, NA, nightly reflection/Bible study, fun activities like bowling, exercise, hiking, riding four wheelers, etc. He is 20. He was given no therapy and no help. He was sent out of town without supervision On random work assignments with people not affiliated with the program. He was given another job, but couldn't hold it. He did not possess skills to hold down a job yet. He needed therapy and counseling. What he got was a poorly run sober living home where he was not even provided food for days on end. He was placed in a position to steal or beg for food from other clients. He was in a hostile environment and given no encouragement. He left the house two or three times to get high and was allowed to return, but we believe he was allowed to return because we had agreed to make payments of another $7000 over time. We had paid them $11,000.00 over the course of the first 90 days or so plus, they had taken almost $400 cash from our son when he returned to the house, $85 I sent my son for a vapor cigarette, and all payment he was due for the jobs he worked while there was never given to him. They even called my family members asking them for donations all the while not even feeding our son....providing him no real therapy. Nathan lives in a huge home he leases with his fiancé with something like 7 bedrooms. Meanwhile, one of the sober living homes the guys live in is in foreclosure and therapists are not being paid. My husband and I have requested dates of service, name of therapist, etc. on numerous occasions and Mr. Hardage's respones was, " If you think I am lying, take me to court!" We are actually looking into that, but believe even if we won a judgement, we would never be paid as there is no mon ey. Please check him out with the Office of Behavioral Health and the Department of Regulatiry Agenices before trusting him. He has had similar issues in other states, and we clearly should never have trusted him. If we can stop even one person from being preyed upon as we were, it will be worth it. I have the name of a couple of legitimate and reliable options in that area if you need them. God bless!

Sober Living Homes are Not IOP's
AUTHOR: KLynn - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, April 13, 2017
When considering the form of rehabilitation that is appropriate for a loved one, it is necessary to look in to all possible options. While sober living homes are a unique way for individuals in recovery to bring positive changes, one must also be well aware that these facilities do not offer services in the same manner as an intensive outpatient program (IOP). In fact, sober living homes promote and operate solely upon individual responsibility of each person participating in this environment. As most of us in the field of addiction and recovery know, it is commonplace for family to enable an addict. More times than not, families and close friends are enablers without realizing the detrimental harm it causes the individual suffering from a substance use disorder (SUD). Without the basis being the individual approach for personal responsibility, sober homes would not be a separate entity from those that are IOP’s. Members of sober living homes are free to come and go as they please. While individualized treatment plans are established upon intake with staff and personnel, the responsibility of upholding the schedule remains on the person to which it applies. All of those choosing to participate in a program such as this are each responsible for the maintenance and upkeep in his living environment; these include, but are not limited to: remaining sober and random drug testing, paying rent, and purchasing food. In addition, while there are rules established for the household, it is the responsibility of each person to abide by them. Sober living homes, such as The Core Vision Network (CVN), are often located in a rural and secluded area to offer peaceful and calming environments. Like IOP’s treatment is individualized specifically for each person’s needs, but unlike IOP’s the programs offered and suggested are not enforced by staff and personnel.
Also unlike IOP’s, sober living homes allow for the re-entering of society without the opportunity for mainstreaming which enables the possibility of being set-up for failure. Peers offer support to one and another and work is encouraged while also being the responsibility for the individual to obtain. To believe that young adults entering a sober home will be micro-managed is simply a false expectancy. While most of these facilities are privately owned, the cost is predetermined at intake. All of those choosing to participate are well aware of all fees due, with or without insurance, prior to committing to this living arrangement. Nathan Hardage is a certified Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Addiction Coach and Interventionist. The CVN has an upwards of ten dually-well qualified and certified members of staff. The philosophy of the CVN is that responsibility comes as an internal drive. The support that is offered for the individual, family, and friends operates on a CORE belief of Commitment, Organization, Responsibility, and Effort; which is an approach that has proven beneficial for a lifelong approach in recovery. Having began the CVN from his own funding, Nathan Hardage has built a well-renowned facility that is an Approved Treatment Provider (ATP) by the state of Colorado.
The CVN is also one of only seven centers statewide that has been rewarded a state contract by the Department of Corrections for helping individuals upon their release. While a life in recovery is not an easy feat, it is absolutely possible for those that are committed to making the correct changes in life. Just as an addiction is dependent upon participation, sobriety is equal in want. Unless the person committing the work of a rehabilitated lifestyle is insistent upon completing all necessary programs, the tools for recovery cannot and will not be established.

Fact millions of people are affected by the disease of addiction. You can fact check this statement. Valid statistics as well as resources back my statement. Fact we are seeing addicts as early as 8 years old seeking treatment, we need to listen uo and do something that helps solve the problem not defer places like facilities such as Nates facility. Fact your loss is something that binds us we feel the sorrow but OPINIONS get us confusion. Make sure that you think before you point the finger because thr sadmess is we lose to many lile your child daily.

It is a very tragic situation when we are dealing with the loss of someone especially as a result of getting help and searching for a reason and someone to point the finger at. I want to point out something in a factual level the number of casualties as a result of overdoses is now at an all time high do you place the blame on the drugs yes do you place blame on the dealers yes notice the patterns here. We look for someone to blame the end of the day is that it was not the facility that failed it was the world that failed. We need to be careful when we start to post statements of slander out of anger because in reality we never know the true mission it is a tragedy this man lost his life as a result but instead of shaming the ones who try to help out we need to embrace the facilities such as the ones like this one that do offer amazing things, like the factors of exactly the story behind how this facility was started and is not getting the proper funds why not point out the factors of that because you are too busy being angry that the system was flawed and there was a negative result so I ask was it the facility that is to be blamed for another bad batch that ended up with another casualty or are we going to place blame anywhere we can because personally I want to blame the cat. Realize the stupidity in that statement ironic isn't it, same scenario in blaming a facility as a result of the war

I'm a client here at corevision and the company is completely crooked. My family has also been asked for donations over and over and the people who work here do not get paid. They get maybe 20-60$ every 2 weeks to live on. I've seen it first hand and there is no recovery here.

"Program"

I agree with everything you said about the nature of therapy. The problem is the contents of the "program" and the definition of "intensive outpatient therapy". We were told that our son would receive weekly counseling/therapy with a licensed therapist. He was seen, we believe by a licensed therapist only once on-on-one at in-take, despite being told repeatedly this was happening.
Further, we were told he was getting group therapy DAILY with licensed therapists. We are aware he had a few group sessions, but we do not believe they were with licensed therapists. We also know that the "fun" activities described here did not happen--appears there are a few hikes and things going on now, so I am pleased that the guys and girls have something to look forward to there.
WE have requested dates of service, the name of the therapists seen, both equine and regular therapists. If this took place, we simply don't see why these records have not been made available to us. An employee called me and I asked him when the last time our son had been to an AA or NA meeting was--he said he couldn't remember. I asked him if our son had a sponsor, he said he was unaware. I asked him when his last one-on-one counseling session was, he stated he was unaware. This was someone living in the house.
Also, our son worked a number of jobs (for only a few days, granted), but he was never paid for those jobs. When I sent money there for him for specific purpose (a vapor cigarette), I was told that it would be purchased, then I was told he needed shoes, then I was told it was spent on groceries--it was actaully spent on nothing for my son--it was just gone. Mr. Hardage has still not explained that money. Mr. Hardage has still not made our son's clothing ( a Northface jacket, a Marmot jacket and several other nice articles of clothing) available to him (he stopped by) or to us despite assuring us he would have them bagged up for him when he was arrested. Our son was not provided food while he was there and 5 different clients told me that if they had not given him food, he would have had nothing to eat.
I know everyone wants to make this about our son and what he did or did not do--that is not my issue. I know he did wrong and he is and has paid dearly for those mistakes. Again, I do not hold anyone other than him responsible for what he did. He is responsible for that, he alone. And he faced it, completely alone!
The issue here is that we paid $11,000 for services that were never rendered--intensive outpatient therapy by licensed therapists. I believe there are no clinical notes and no treatment plan was ever made. We requested it several times--it was never forthcoming.
Our mistake was trusting this company adnd this person when they had had similar issues in two other states. I just want anyone who is looking for this kind of help to check with the Office of Behavioral Health and the Department of Regulatory Agencies before sending your loved one. Do that, and you will find that I am not lying--I am telling the truth.
No amount of testimonials can remove the truth...especially biased and fabricated ones.
Blessings to all! I will not respond any further to this although I suspect there will be a long litany of employees and current "clients" who will respond here. Just call those two agencies before you move forward--just do that! Your questions about who is telling the truth here will be settled with a couple of phone calls. "The trust of the innocent is the liar's biggest tool".
For a company that claimed to have a success rate in the 80's...I can't find one real success story among all of the individuals I met when I was there. They did put on a great show, however, so from that persepctive, they were successful!

Our son may not be successful in this new location, you're correct. What IS happening, however, is real treatment. I understood going into this that there are no guarantees. What our son did here is not what is at issue. What is at issue here is what we were told and what was DONE for him. You're absolutely correct, he could walk out of this new treatment facility and do the exact same thing. The difference is, they are actually providing him with treatment. He did not see a one-on-one therapist more than once at CoreVison--if he did, send me the records! He saw a therapist ONCE at intake and never again until I visited there. Truth is, I don't think she was ever paid for her services, that is why she is no longer there. I have spoken with enough people in that house to know the truth of what happened there. And Mr. Hardage has had plenty of time to send me records to prove our son received what he said he would receive. So, please, don't make this about our son. That is the oldest trick in the book--blame the victim! This has nothing to do with him. This has to do with what we were told and the truth of what actually happened. This has to do with us being told one thing and somethign completley different being done. If he had received all the services we were promised and he went out and broke the law, we would not have said one word about it, but that is not the case. Who knows where he might be if he had gotten what he was supposed to have gotten--what we paid $11,000 for?? I understand why you wrote what you wrote--I wish you the best. If you're serious about setting me straight, or feel you have some real informaiton to provide me on this--give me a call--anytime and we can talk about it. You should be able to get my number easily enough. You know I am telling the truth! Blessings!!

What I wrote in my inital report is absolutely true! I know he did things he should not have done, but he did not receive what we paid for! He was NOT provided what Nathan said he was provided and we were stolen from! He made claims to our family members and accepted large donations from them--and he was NOT provdided food at all times. If you were there, you know this. I have spoken to 5 different people who have told me this. I seriously doubt you're even a client, we have become keenly aware that many of the facebook posts, etc. are made up or posted under duress. I sincerely hope that you have had a good experience, although I don't know of anyone who truly has. If you are for real and you have, then I am happy to hear that. It was not so for our son. He was left in that house for multiple days on end with nothing to do--Nathan called it "isololation therapy". His current therapist tells us there is no such thing as "isolation" therapy and you know that the "equine therapy" was cleaning out horse stalls that Nathan got paid for. If Nathan and CoreVision did the right thing, then let them send me proof of services, which he told me he had. I will remove this report and state the error in my ways publicly for all to see. If there was, indeed, all he claims, let him send records. I have my records. He should have his.

I work in the office at CoreVision. I am not a therapist or counselor. I know that this may be viewed as skewed, but what I write here is honesty and hopefully an unbiased account of the way the program works. Our primary population in treatment are those who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. A few of those are people who have been living on the streets or in crack/meth houses for a period of time. Sometimes just a few days, but others for a longer period of time. Our clients struggle with their addictions. They struggle with daily life. They struggle with the overwhelming desire to use and thus they tend to manipulate, lie, steal, etc. That is what addiction does to normally good people. They will lie to their families, inflate or deflate daily situations, negate the things that don't register as important in their treatment, or not really make the committment to their recovery. That is all part of what they have to deal with, as a part of their addiction. I see some not taking a proactive position in their treatment. This is sometimes true with people who enter our program from a family intervention or who have been convinced to seek treatment from their families. If they are not ready to take on the challenges of recovery on their own, have not made the committment to become clean/sober, then their participation within the program shows that lack of committment. Treatment demands a committment to participation. You are responsible for making sure that You get to the inidividual therapies, to the group therapies, to the meeting places.
Our sober living houses are not a part of our treatment program. Sober living is just a place to rest your head in an atmosphere with others who are struggling to stay clean/sober too. Part of that is some people do fall off the wagon-so to speak. It happens. Getting clean and sober and staying clean and sober is the challenge that people with addictions have-every moment of every day. So people who choose to use once or possibly twice are given a 2nd chance-because they are dealing with addiction. Additionally, falling off the wagon can be a one time slip-not a week or 2 long episode of using continually. If someone goes and uses for days/week's etc. they are not normally permitted back into the sober living community.
This works especially for those who are in treatment And residing in the sober living house.
Our clients taking responsibility for themselves and their actions are a part of our treatment program. Not making excuses about things within their control, taking charge of their lives and their decisions. I want to the see people within our programs be successful in their recovery journies. The sad truth is that for some, it just isn't going to happen-this time.
When you are around people struggling with these things, you begin to see that the first step and then the next step is like climbing a mountain for them. And celebrating those steps is tantamount to their success. But you cannot force them to do it-they must make the decision themselves.

I am a client of CoreVision and I know your son very well. I want to start with saying I cannot express my gratitude enough to Nathan Hardage and the staff at CoreVision. I battled with addiction in the darkest form for years. I was completely broken, and had lost everything to this terrible disease. My house, car, and was about to lose my child, i had lost my self respect, any hope for the future, but most of all my soul. I just figured I would be a junkie the rest of my life. I reached out to Nathan at CoreVision in June 2015. I told Nathan I had nothing to offer him but I did not want to die. The next day I was on a flight to Colorado, 1,200 miles away from anyone or anything I knew. I had no money to pay for anything but Nathan took me in graciously. I eventually got a part time job to pay for my treatment and housing cost. Within a couple months I was able to move my daughter out here with me and we have never been happier. She started high school and I have gone back to college. I have been clean for 150 days. My family trust me again. I know your son very well because we attending many therapy groups together. I looked at him like a little brother. I can tell you he had many people encouraging him to just keep trying. We all care about him very much, including Nathan. I spent alot of time with your son. Between groups or one on one sessions at the office. Religious activities and BBQ s on Sundays. Equine therapy and hiking at the ranch. NA,AA meetings. Volunteer work for religious events, Just to name a few. Mam I understand how hard it is to have a child who struggles with addiction and mental illness. I now know what I put my family through! But to blame it on Nathan or Corevision, I refuse to let that happen! Nathan saved my life. Along with many others before me and many more to follow. The harsh reality of it is your son was just not ready. You cannot blame it on the treatment center. To say these things were not provided is inaccurate. Your son was always provided food and safety. He chose to go to stores and steal nonsense things. And eventually started breaking into houses. That was simply his choice, like I said he was just not ready. It is really sad but it is the harsh reality of this terrible disease we call addiction. I've seen your son since he left this program and I know he is in a new sober home. We'll see if this one gets the blame if your son is unsuccessful as well. I sincerely care alot about him and you are all in my prayers daily. To anyone reading this you can look up the Drug Recovery Network and see many great success stories. Many of us know how hard of a road Recovery is. And if you have struggled with addiction you know you have to completely surrender and fight for recovery. Noone can do the work for you. Nathan just gave me all the tools I needed to learn how to get and stay clean. The work is on you to keep it. God bless you all!
