I received a call from NACS (National Association of Credit Services, Inc.), the representative was friendly and seemed to have my best interest in mind.

I agreed to set up an account which required a $200.00 deposit. Upon doing this I would be able to order merchandise out of catalogs that carried the same merchandise that Dillards, Lowes, etc. carried, but at a 40% to 60% discount. The credit line would be $2,500.00. This sounded great. I asked if I had to put a deposit on an order when ordering the merchandise, I was told no.

I received a Verification & Acceptance Certificate a few days before the $200.00 was to be taken out of my account. The notice said that upon signing I agreed to the credit agreement and to having the $200.00 taken out of my account. I read over the credit agreement and found that a 35% deposit had to be place on merchandise ordered.

I called and asked to have the transaction canceled. I was then told that there was a $35.00 early termination fee that I would be charged. This was a first to hear about. This time around they where not as friendly and rather sarcastic, in addition I had to wait approximately 10 minutes to talk to a representative.

I called back again and asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. I waited 15 minutes before Joesph Phillips answered and he was extremely sarcastic and had an "Oh well, your loss" air about him. He said he had the recorded verification and agreement and that I agreed to this. I asked if he had the whole conversation recorded, because I agreed based on what I was told in that conversation. He tried to use a play on words concerning the question I asked about the down payment. At that time I told him that I would not continue the conversation with him and that I just need direct contact information.

I was charged the $35.00 fee the following day.

I contacted my attorney and was advised to file a report with the Better Business Bureau and the State's Attorney General's Office. In addition I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the National Consumer's League. My attorney also sent a letter.

Two days later,(today), I received a call from Sam at NACS asking if I would report back to the BBB that I was given a refund of the $35.00. I told him when I received my money, I would make the report. I asked why Mr. Phillips couldn't settle this matter when I spoke with him. No explaination was given.

I feel confident that I will receive a refund because NACS wants me to report back to the BBB that the matter has been corrected. For all those who have been ripped off, report your situation to the BBB online: http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, its paid for!
