On 5/4/2003 I followed a link on an auction page on E-bay for extended warrantee coverage for a product I was planning on purchasing. I entered the E-bay item number as directed and was told multiple times that the auction was not complete yet. This lead me to concluded that the item was infact elligible for warrantee coverage.

Not being one to make assumtions based on a machines response, I contacted the N.E.W. Corporation via phone at their toll free phone number to inquire from a human about the warrantee eligibility of the product I was planning on purchasing from E-bay. I spoke to a woman who asked me what the product was, and how it was used.

I explained that it was a home security system and I gave a fairly lengthy explanation as to its function. She asked if I would like to purchase a warranty for the item and I explained that I had not completed the purchase yet because the auction had not yet completed. She said that my item could be warranted and that all I needed to do was to use the web interface with my item number and I would be able to purchase the warranty. After I purchased the item and paid for it on 5/5/2003 I attempted to use the web interface to purchase my warrantee and was told multiple times that the item was not eligible. (Logic would dictate that it would have said this from the begining, but apparently N.E.W. is not logical?) I then called the company again and spoke with yet another employee of the N.E.W. Corporation who told me that the item I had purchased was in fact, not eligible for warrantee and that he could not help me further. I explained what I had been told by the previous operator and I asked if there was a record of that phone conversations with me. He said there was not and that they did not keep records of phone conversations with their customers. The person I spoke with was named Eric and his extension was 3832. I do not recall the name or extension number of the woman I originally spoke with but suffice it to say this company
1. DOES NOT KEEP RECORDS and
2. IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH WHAT THE TELL YOU ON THE PHONE!

This incident has cost me not only the time invested in bidding on an auction item that I cannot get a warrantee, but I am
Now forced to contact the seller and fight to get a refund and stop the shipment of the product. I cannot believe this level of crappy service from a National company.
STAY AWAY FROM THESE BOZOS!

Confusion

AUTHOR: Keepingitreal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 26, 2008

I also won an item on eBay and wasn't eligible for the warranty either. I asked why I wasn't and the item had been out of the manufacturers warranty for too long. I brought up that the auction had the possible warranty link in it and the young lady explained that all items that are possibly eligible for the coverage have the link. The rep couldnt have notes on file for the original submitter of this stories first call because only registered persons are in the database. You had not won the item before calling and didn't register an item at that time, that is why call notes were not in the system. A company the size of N.E.W. cannot keep call notes for every individual that calls and asks a question about their services. The young woman was very nice and answered all my questions.

It's the NEW End of the World! ..thank you!.. this site offers consumers a valuable place to voice wrong doings by seemingly immoral companies

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 24, 2004

I think that this site offers consumers a valuable place to voice wrong doings by seemingly immoral companies that rip people off. I've had it happen to me all to often recently. I don't think that this is a place for venting harmless mistakes and potentially damaging a good companies reputation.

First, what harm was done during this experience? Did this consumer actually loose hundreds or thousands or even 5 bucks? No. This person was slightly inconvenienced and had to face the realities (as do I and millions of others) of purchasing an item on ebay.

Second, the representative who spoke with the consumer could have very well been inexperienced, rushed, or confused due the person's "lengthy" explanation of the product. Allot can happen during a call and there are many factors that can never be known by these readers. If I were to venture a guess from the complaint, I would have to say that information was not clear to either party. Whose fault? Who knows.

Regardless, a simple communication error doesn't make this company a bad choice nor does it warrant being labeled a "rip-off." And while it is true that companies should be reliable enough to be taken at their word, a little extra effort researching can yield allot of results. I am not defending the corporation; I am simply frustrated by impatient people and those that air their dirty laundry. "Life is tough, get over it."

False Promises and Inconsistent Answers

AUTHOR: Wilbert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 20, 2004

May 2004, my all in one HP printer malfunctioned. I contacted N.E.W. by phone to get service.I was told a mailing label will be mail to me within 7 to 10 days.I could not wait that long so I went to OfficeMax where I purchase the printer. I was told to purchase another printer and when I received the certificate, I was to bring the certificate to them. They would in turn refund my money for the new purchase.

I waited a couple of weeks, no shipping label. I called N.E.W. and was promise the label was on the way. I informed them that Officemax had taken the defective printer and I only need the certificate to turn-in to OfficeMax for my refund. I called May 28, June 7,10,29, July 11,12,19,20 to get different answers and promises.

My last promise was my check is in the mail. I am still waiting. Please let everyone know not to do business with N.E.W.
