We heard about National Standard Financial through friends and paid them $3,500 to do a short-pay refinance of our home in February of 2010. We have been in touch with both Tim Bernsen and Duane Delbeke at this company. We have been told various stories about the status of our file, but have never been given anything in writing, nor any concrete information about what is happening with our file. We were initially told this process would take 30-90 days. For the last month, we cannot get anyone to answer or return our phone calls or e-mails. We have written to NSF and gave them a week to respond with a refund and/or an explanation, and have not heard back from anyone. We believe we have been scammed by National Standard Financial and hope that by filing complaints with various agencies and by spreading the word on the internet, we will see them make things right or that others will be forewarned of their dishonest business practices.

We were also ripped off by Tim Bernsen at National Standard Financial - under the exact same conditions mentioned. Since his phone and that of NSF are now disconnected, we are wondering what steps, if any, we can take next...

Information in writing

Let me clarify: There was, indeed, a contract and a great deal of paperwork at the beginning but we received nothing official in writing regarding the status of our file - only excuses and vague information over the phone and via e-mail.

Really?

Did you really give them $3500  "but have never been given anything in writing"?

You had nothing in writing before giving them $3500?  Really?
