If you're primarily seeking a true education regarding all aspects of navigation, and as a bonus, aquiring your legitimate captains license, then I highly recommend attending the class/es of your choice at The Nautical School of Lindenhurst with Captain Bill Rivera.

I recently completed his course. True, it was not easy, but it offered every bit of guidance from Captain Bill. All classes were held on a timely and professional basis, and specifically designed (through what seemed to me created from years of Captain Bills teaching experience) to enhance your ability to retain an abundance of knowledge in as short a time as possible. Prior to the USCG tests, Captain Bill offers to each student private time if needed. Additionally he offers his personnal contact number. 

If you just want to "buy" a captains license without receiving the real education, then don't enroll at The Nautical School of Lindenhurst. (you shouldnt be on the water anyway). But if you want to honor yourself with the REAL education with a priceless level of self esteem, then The Nautical School with Captain Bill Rivera is the place to go.

 When I was researching a school to get my Captains Lic I decided to ask friends who are Charter boat captains where they thought I should go.  Seven of my friends recomended the Nautical School of Lindenhurst.  One day I received a call from Capt Pete who said he was at a fishing show and I should come and meet one of the people from the school

I went and meet the young girl that managers the school.  After a few minutes of speeking with her I signed up for the class.

I was told by the captains that recomended the school that Capt Bill Rivera and Capt Sam Fusco are very dedicated to their job and you could not find more caring and helpfull people. 

I am a criminal investigator by trade and research everything to a fault.  I have found noting that would make me not sign up with this firm.  Its such a shame that in todays world you can have a great reputation from so many people and have one person try to destroy it with unfounded allagations.

The people I have met at the school are so good and careing I would recomend this school to all my friends.

Folks, this is not a student; IT WAS ALLEGEDLY WRITTEN BY AN UNETHICAL COMPETITOR IN NASSAU COUNTY, LONG ISLAND, whose claim to fame is teaching 8-hr safe boating classes, and now alludes to a course he offers as his own when in fact it is owned by another school clear across the country. Sadly, he is nothing more than an pompous wannabe.
 
Please read the ad again and realize how a person named JUAN can be so angry and supposedly know so many negative personal details about one of the schools founders with an impeccable reputation?  
 
Truth is: There is no Juan - he doesnt exist the report is a fabrication. Its not even a rip off report; its just a transparent libelous personal attack by this frustrated charlatan.
 
Its almost comical and most importantly: ITS OBVIOUS and so patently absurd that its content wont even be dignified with a response. It is a sad commentary from a desperate and frustrated coward hiding behind a hidden IP address (so far) otherwise wed sue him for defamation and libel.
 
No one would have stayed in business if ANYTHING that coward stated was true?  The fact is that the MAJORITY OF NEW STUDENTS COME TO TNS FROM RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE GRADUATE CAPTAINS (BOTH MEN AND WOMEN) AS WELL AS COMMERCIAL OPERATORS LIKE NEW YORK WATERWAY TAXI, STATUE CRUISES, FD MARINE UNIT, POLICE DEPT HARBOR UNIT AMONG MANY OTHERS WHO CHOOSE TO SEND THEIR EMPLOYEES TO TNS EXCLUSIVELY FOR THEIR TRAINING.
 
This is the reason were far and away the #1 school in the northeast and continue to grow. Lastly, we regret that you had to read this garbage in the first place but alas, thats how the internet works and any coward can anonymously fabricate anything. The allegations are very personal but most of all outrageous which is what makes them obvious in motive. Again, the person above has a history of attacking the school and one of its founders while deceiving the public as to his own credentials. The boating industry indeed is a small community and he is neither respected nor liked by many because of his tactics and personality.

This Nautical school is Definitely Not on the up and up. Total Fraud!! Total Deceit! Total Double Dealing!

The owner as well as the teacher at the school, Bill Rivera, is not only a full fledged alcoholic, he is condescending to his students (who he rips off all his students and demands more money after you have paid him his fee.)

The owner Bill Rivera is extremely Belligerent and the fellow students in his class are amazed out how this drunk (who encourages people to drink at sea while operating the boat and gives tips on how to hide the liquor at sea.)

Captain Bill sips from his flask during class and actually bragged on how he gets inebriated while driving his own boat at sea.

Other Boaters including myself (in which I didn't finish his class, I got my license at a reputable school) has seen Bill Rivera out at sea 'beyond' inebriated, plastered, blind-drunk, and Bill Rivera actually has a Captains license and is allowed to drive a boat or qualify to teach anyone else his own nasty behavior is amazing in itself.

The other reports are all true.

The boating world is a small world and the word on Bill Rivera run is all true about Bill Rivera.

Beware of this repugnant, foul, spiteful, malicious, revolting, foul-smelling drunk who will take your money, cancel classes, not pay others (this other person I know worked for Captain Bill for a while and didn't pay his staff among other things they told me that were horrific working for Captain Bill.)

Captain Bills License to operate any watercraft, or car or anything that has a motor should be revoked, and his license to 'teach' others should be revoked as well.

As a witness to Captain Bill Riveras actions, his unprofessional business actions from his condescending belittling spews of venom (he was worse to the female students) is proof that this man should not only be barred from the Boating World but also banned from Humanity, because this kind of evil doesnt deserve to breath the same air as the rest of the world.

Revoke this scums license.

The events conveyed by Gregory Smith of the Albany Yacht Club are innacurate and frought with lies and omissions. The Nautical School is among the most prestigious of schools and NEVER has there been a dispute or any claims made by any organization who have hosted the school in the past. The school currently operates in 6 states and we have been and continue to be invited back each time.

Gregory Smith's histerical rantings omit the fact that the space was not provided as agreed. Not only was the space poorly lighted requiring the instructor to delay the class due to having to drive to BUY LIGHTBULBS so that the students could see their charts but Smith also conveniently leaves out that on at least 2 evenings the class was moved by him - as we had no choice - to a cold garage some miles away. (Cold is not an understatement as students had to wear coats during the class whiile sitting on folding chairs). We understand he owns the car garage station that the class was forced to move into.

We subsequently received compliants from virtually every student. We informed his "other board member" of the issue however our complaints landed on deaf ears and they simply decided to unilateraly invoice the school.

These are the facts and all that Gregory Smith has accomplished with is histerical ranting is to give the school cause to commence a lawsuit which will be served upon him and/or the Albany Yacht Club without delay.

The school enjoys an excellent reputation and has NEVER had a complaint before. We also have never had the misfortune of having to subject any student to the conditions orchestrated at the Albany Yacht Club. We have an excellent credit standing with all our creditors. In fact, the school has no outstanding debt with any organization or creditor. None whatsoever!

Mr. Smith has to realize that he can't just spew unjust defamatory statements and has given the school legal cause to file a lawsuit for his libelous statements. Unfortunately, as he is touting his musings as commodore of the AYC, we have no choice than to pursue action against them both.
