North Carolina child support enforcement has had my case for over a year and has done nothing to help my children or myself. I am owed about $5,000 in support and they have sat on their hands and give me this big run around. Everytime I call to talk to my case worker, she's always out or off and I get no return call.

I have even gave them his address and phone #. (Which is part of "their" job). I get treated like $5,000 isn't that big of a deal, maybe not to them.

They get their pay day on time, they would work a little harder if they only got paid if they collected on their accounts.

I've known of men who have went to jail or who have lost the right to driver over alot less money owed.

I just don't understand why my kids can't get what they or owed.

Report in wrong location

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 17, 2006

Your report sounds more like a dead beat dad report rather than child protective services, I think that is why the confusion. There are many cases like yours in the secion titled "dead beat dads" in this ripp off report site. There may be some good information there for you. (ie. what other mothers have done in these situations)

Kathy, telephone calls will not help

AUTHOR: Aafes - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 06, 2006

Kathy, telephone calls will not help much and face to face meetings are difficult for you being out of state. I worked in support enforcement for years and the sheer volume of cases each casworker has to deal with often puts many of them in the mindset of out of sight, out of mind. You aren't likely to walk in the door and confront them, so your worker is not giving your case much priority.

Write detailed letters to each of the following:

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Administration for Children and Families
370 L'Enfant Promenade, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20447

Child Support Enforcement
PO Box 20800
Raleigh, NC 27619-0800

Governor Michael F. Easley
Office of the Governor
20301 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-0301

Senator George Allen
204 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING
WASHINGTON DC 20510

Senator John Warner
225 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING
WASHINGTON DC 20510

When you write send a calm, detailed letter of your efforts and their non responsiveness. Mention in your letters to the NC Governor and NC Child support enforcement that you have also contacted Federal Support Enforcement and your Senators regarding this matter.

Trust me, NOTHING gets the attention of state agencies and politicians faster than believing there is a chance a Federal authority or Senatorial office may investigate them for not doing their job, especially when it comes to children. They are funded by these people and they will likely jump through hoops to work your case once contacted by your Senators or the Federal office.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

I dont know if he has a job or not, but if he doesnt, all he will have to pay is $50 a month, but thats more than hes paying right now.
Call the front desk of DSS and ask for your worker's supervisor, and call them if your worker isnt calling you back.
Unfortunately what you said about his drving priviledges isnt the case anymore. I think a year or 2 back, they stopped revoking drivers licencses for child support, you may want to google that up, I may be wrong on that one.

As for the address thing, if someone sends the letter back like he doesnt live there,DSS basically drops the ball.

but I know they can look up his place of employment by his social security number.
Good Luck!
April

PS~ I just noticed you dont live in NC,I have heard its harder to get support across state lines.I hope all works out for you!

Ignore the girl from Michigan, Kathy

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 05, 2006

As you know, in NC, the agency that handles Child Support cases, IS Child Support Enforcement, not CPS. You never mentioned CPS anyway.

This may or may not help you. Contact the County Manager for whatever County the father of your child lives in, and report the problem to him/her. Contact the State CSE Agency. Contact Mike Easley himself. When he was Attorney General, he handled my overtime issue personally. He is very accessable as Governor also.

As for the case worker NOT being responsible for whether someone goes to jail, YES the case worker is. There are problems though. As bureaucrats, they are inherently lazy, and don't be surprised if your "ex" hasn't hooked up with one. I personally know of one who used her office to harrass the woman owed support, and repeatedly had DSS investigate the household, for no other reason than HER husband was the scumbag who owed the child support.

Only when SHE was issued a warning by the Judge, and HER husband was made to increase his support payments, did she stop HER nonsense. The husband is miltary, so at least he has to pay.

CPS is not in the business of paying child support

AUTHOR: Gail - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 05, 2006

Hello,

CPS is not in the business of handling child support. You need to contact the Friend of Court or whatever department handles child support in your county. Child protective services has nothing to do with child support payments.

Oh, another thing- the worker involved has no control over whether your childs father is sent to jail for not paying. The court is the only entity that can determine whether the lack of payment warrants jail time.

By the way, $5000 is a lot of money but I know a number of people who are owed over $40,000 and there is nothing that they can do except hope that the deadbeat gets a legitimate job, wins the lottery or dies and leaves money. Good Luck
