How it begins is that a friend of mine got caught up in the Kennedy Fabrics scam, and she caught it too late. She is being brought up on felony charges of trying to cash counterfeit travelers cheques. We found this site, learned about how many people were affected by that scam, and she is trying to get out of the charges. That isn't my point however.

Last night, I received this e-mail, stating that I could receive 40% of 11.5 million dollars from a dead guy that didn't have a will all I needed to do was provide my bank account information. I am extremely disturbed that they somehow got my e-mail address, but I want everyone to know about another scam trying to steal people's identities, bank information, and so on. Here is the e-mail::

PROPOSAL!

Dear Friend,
I am Mr. Manuel Guedes, a staff of Ned Bank of South Africa. I have a urgent and very confidential business proposal for you; An American Gold consultant/contractor with the South African Solid Gold Corporation, Mr. William Bryant made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar months, valued at US$11,500,000.00 (Eleven Million Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) in my branch.

Upon maturity, I sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract employers (South African Solid Gold Corporation) that John Bryant died in a plane crash in Alaska Airlines Flight 261 (for more information about this crash and people who died you can view the website below):
archives.cnn.com/2000/US/02/01/alaska.airlines.list/

On further investigation, I found out that he died without making a WILL, and all attempts to trace his next of kin was fruitless. I therefore made more investigation and I discovered that Mr. William Bryant did not declare any kin or relations in all his official documents, including his Bank Deposit paperwork in my Bank. This sum of US$11,500,000.00 is still sitting in my Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. No one will ever come forward to claim it.

According to Laws of Republic OF SOUTH AFRICA; at the expiration of Seven years, the money will revert to the ownership of the South African Government if nobody applies to claim the fund. Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand in as the next of kin to Mr. William Bryant so that the fruits of this old man's labour will not get into the hands of some corrupt government officials. This is simple, I will like you to provide immediately your full names, and address so that an attorney will prepare the necessary documents and affidavits that will put you in place as the next of kin; we shall employ the services of an attorney for drafting and notarisation of the WILL and to obtain the necessary documents in your favour for the transfer.

A bank account in any part of the world that you will provide will then facilitate the transfer of this money to you as the beneficiary/next of kin. The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 60% for me and 40% for you. There is no risk at all, as all the paperwork for this transaction will be done by a attorney, and my position as a prominent official of Ned bank guarantees the successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested, please reply immediately via the private email address below. Upon your response, I shall then provide you with more details that will help you understand the transaction.

Please send me your confidential telephone numbers for easy communication. Also, ensure to observe utmost confidentiality, and be rest assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country.

Awaiting your urgent reply via my confidential email address.
Best regards.
Mr Manuel Guedes

011 27860 115 060 but it could be expensive if you don't have International option already on your phone. It probably would be better to send them an email. You can do this through this site: http://www.nedbank.co.za/website/content/contacts/index.asp

Good luck!

Old Nigerian scam

AUTHOR: Ernest - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2008

Nedbank is a real bank in South Africa. This has nothing to do with them and is nothing more than the old Nigerian scam. I also saw a report here today where ABSA bank was mentioned. This is also a real bank in South Africa. Their name is also being used to try and scam people. Both banks have a website where you can contact them. Do a Google search.

Contacting NEDBank

AUTHOR: A_random_college_student - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2008

South Africian,

In attempting to contact NEDBank, I found that I cannot dial that particular number. Is there another way that I can go about contacting them, becuase if this is a real bank, then someone is either tarnishing their reputation, or could be trying to make problems for them that they more than likely do not need. I would be more than willing to contact them and tell them about this particualr scam. I am located in the US, and I have no clue on how to make international calls. Please explain so that I can inform them of this scam that is trying to transpire. Thank you.

Not the actual Nedbank?

AUTHOR: South African - (South Africa)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2008

This probably isn't an employee from the actual Nedbank.

If it is a scrupilous employee however, they might want to know about it.

Their phone number is +27860 115 060
