Approximately a week before Thanksgiving of this year I bought a Nesco 6 qt. Roaster at Sears. Sears was very prompt in delivery. I expected to cook our Thanksgiving turkey in the roaster.  The instructions in the Nesco booklet say to let it cook empty at 425 degrees, in a well ventilated area before using, specifically - " ... Operate the roaster oven empty ( without the Cookwell or Cover ) for approximately minutes, or until any odor or smoking disappear. Some smoke and odor are a normal part of 'curing' the element and will not reoccur in cooking use".

The ripoff is that I did just as instructed and the next day, just to be sure, I let it heat up before I decided to put food in the roaster. You would believe the stinky fumes and odor. So I go through the steps again to 'cure' the elements. One hour each time. I have been doing this this now for 3 weeks, three times a day, and still the Nesco Roaster Oven is unusable due to the fumes. I am not a very sensitive person when it comes to odors. I can put up with most all of them. But to pay near $60.00 and spend over three weeks without any results to the curing process is something that no one should be subjected to. I would recommend that if you are going to buy a NESCO ROASTER OVEN that you not buy a new one. Best to get one that someone else has used for a while and is working properly.

I phoned the 800 number that is in the book. Talked with a representative named Angie. All she could do was repeat the instructions in the booklet and if not satisfied to mail the roaster to Wisconsin, at my cost. Can you imagine the shipping cost.

I guess I am stuck with a piece of crap that might eventually cure itself if I keep at it for another 3 weeks, three times a day.

Don't expect to buy one and use it soon!

Sears also is not blameless. They should have some type of disclaimer on the outside of the package warning that the Roaster needs to be 'Cooked out / Cured' before able to be used.
