Someone named JOHN of New Line Equity has stolen my online identity in a very disturbing way.

I am a 30-year homeowner and have been renting an apartment in my home for almost that long.  I use Craigslist to advertise this apartment for Rent in my home and I've had great success finding tenants.  Now I am wary of the Internet because it is so easy for scammers to use your information illegally.

After listing my 4-bedroom apartment for rent in White Plains at $2300 a month, I went on Craigslist to check out the competition.  Two days after my ad was posted, I see another ad with a similar title to mine, listing a 4 bedroom apartment for rent here in White Plains for only $1,850 a month!  I was shocked, since I have priced my apartment at the low-end of the market norm for this area, I couldn't believe someone could afford to rent their four-bedroom for $450 less!  Well, I was right.  They can't rent a 4-bedroom for that much, in fact they are not renting anything at all.  The ad was a fake, and surprise, surprise, it contained MY rental advertisement's EXACT wording (copy & pasted), with only a few small changes at the end, where these frauds claimed that anyone interested in the property should call their phone number (718) 210-1561 to ask about leasing this apartment with the option to buy the property.

To top it all off, at the end of their ad, they included four beautiful photos of my home, inside & out.  These images are the exact same ones that I took with my camera, and that I included with my original Craigslist rental ad.

I am outraged. This guy is sitting somewhere lifting MY photos, of MY home (which, by the way, I've owned for over 30 years) and passing it off as his own!!!

Well I flagged the ad countless times on Craigslist to no avail, I submitted a complaint online to Craigslist, no change.  His ad is still up - and thanks to Craigslist's policies, his ad is the first one you see because it was posted after I posted mine.  I have to wait the stipulated 7 days before I can re-post my Legitimate rental ad - while this guy rakes in all the attention and completely discredits my online reputation as a landlord.  Anyone who calls his number will reach the same recording I listened to:

First the recording indicates that "Your call is second in line to be answered by a representative", then it moves you up to First in line, except no one ever answers.  A recording of a man's voice comes on and says, "Hi, this is John." and proceeds to describe New Line Equity as the most affordable pre-foreclosure acquisition company.  He says that for only $40 you can get a list of pre-foreclosed homes in your area, a 5-step guide to buying a foreclosure property, and the E-Transfer of a pre-foreclosed property's title into your name.  All you have to do is call another number: 415-742-4411.  The idea behind this scam is that you buy the Title to a pre-foreclosed home while the mortgage stays in the former owner's name.  You pay the mortgage under that person's name, and the home is yours.  THIS IS FAKE!!!

My home is not in foreclosure.  Never has been, never will be.  My home is not for sale, the title to my property will pass to my children when I die.  This guy's ad & entire operation is a complete scam.  The photos he has in this ad ARE MINE!!!

Here is the ID# to the NewLineEquity Craigslist Ad they posted ILLEGALLY, using my information, exact words & photos:  1798328608

Please flag his ad as prohibited - so that Craigslist will actually take it down.  I can't believe they haven't taken it down yet.  I am so tired of abiding by all the rules, while frauds like this one get away with scamming me and the public.
