I have a Sprint Wireless Data plan, it is called unlimited and it is limited to 5 Gb a month for a fixed 59 dollars a month. This plan is used on my Sony Vaio computer, the wireless SIM card is inserted inside and is factory sealed. When you are purchasing the computer, you are advised to connect to Sprint wireless as the card is pre-installed.

So I did. I have got this data only plan, and recently I have noticed that on my August statement there are charges for Canadian roaming- i.e additional charge. I have ignored it first time and paid that 20 or so dollars extra as the payment is automatically deducted from my checking account. But on the September bill the Canadian roaming charge is 309.94 dollars, which got me really upset, and my automatic payment is due soon. I have called Sprint right away, explained that I have not been to Canada for 12 years now, all this time I have spent on Sanibel in sunny Florida and there should be no charges like this on my account. I have spent an hour on this issue, had to talk with two representatives and was promised that the issue will be sorted out soon.

One week passed ,I have not heard from them, and now I have called Sprint again. The call lasted 78 minutes, most of it I was hanging on to listen to Sprint ads, I had to talk to 3 different representatives, who kept refering to their supervisors, technical dept and fraud unit, and at the end Sprint guy told me that I am responsible for those charges and there is nothing they can do. As I did not agree with that, I was told that yet another supervisor will look into this, in 3 days time, and will ring me.

The curious thing is that I have not been to Canada, my PC in question was recalled by Sony in september and it was moved for repairs to san Diego, California, but even before that I have a complete log of my connections to various banking and stock trading sites proving that the service has been used solely in Florida, and by no means in or in proximity to Canada.

I have noticed that there are more customers who complain about roaming charges from Sprint, in fact, there is one more guy telling ripoffreport.com that he was charged a similar amount on his cell phone data use, also allegedly in Canada although he has not been there. If there are any lawyers interested in a class action, they should take note. I personally will start a blog and write to media as it is just funny, if not expensive: Sprint is hostage to their own technology, unfriendly, uncooperative and ignorant. I have already wasted two full hours on my calls to them with no results.

Hopefully, no results yet. Does anybody have a similar problem with Sprint?
