He got me! I knew it was too good to be true but I did it anyway....

Walking outside of Penn Station this morning, this African American man in his 60s in a baseball cap approached me looking for Whole Foods. I told him it was in the other direction. He told me I had "a great voice for voice overs". He hooked me in.

He was a smooth talker and seemed legit. He showed me his Nickelodeon "card" from his wallet (didn't take it out tho). Talked to me about they pay you $190 per hour and it's only on the weekends and wanted to "hire me on the spot". "I'll get you tickets to come see a show." "I like you so much, I'll give you 4 tickets to see Frozen" (He gave me what he told me was info on how to pick up my tickets at will call—it was just the pamplet for the show, but didn't look at it until I got to work)

Long story short, I gave him $140 cash. I knew it was wrong but in my head I was like "What if it's true and I get to voiceover work on the side!"

Anyway, be aware and more street smart than this! Looks like I'm not the only victim but I went against my New Yorker instincts and got burned.

9/4/2018 Guy is STILL at it!

POSTED: Tuesday, September 04, 2018

All these years later, seems like "Kenny” is still at it. And that guy in the photo from one of the posters above is the SAME one that scammed me today!! Here’s my iteration of the same scam: He got me! I knew it was too good to be true but I did it anyway.... Walking outside of Penn Station this morning, this African American man in his 60s in a baseball cap approached me looking for Whole Foods. I told him it was in the other direction. I knew it was wrong but in my head I was like "What if it's true and I get to voiceover work on the side!" Anyway, be aware and more street smart than this!
