Received a False/Erroneous Toll violation from NJ Turnpike Authority - EZ Pass in 2015 in NJ for a toll I paid by cash in 2014, but could not find the cash receipt to prove it. Not only was I charged the toll I already paid, but they added an Admin fee of $50. They have nothing but a still photo of the trunk of my car, which could only have been taken if I'm stopped in line waiting to pay the toll. I have a witness in the car who confirmed we paid all the tolls.
I want a video clip of my car. It will show I stopped and paid the toll attendant EVERY TIME.
I was told by friends/family that the same thing happened to them over the last 2 years in different parts of NJ. I want to report this scam against non-residents who are law-abiding citizens. There is no recourse for drivers who do not have EZ-Pass.
How can the people who receive these violations in the mail be guilty when there is an option on the back of the form to "attach a copy of the receipt" if you paid the toll by cash? NJ Turnpike Authority - EZ Pass has no proof that you didn't pay the toll, only that you were in that city on a particular day. So, apparently information is shared between states and you have no protection!
Please investigate this State-sponsored scam! Non-residents are being harassed because NJ wants extra money for their highways.

Problem Was Resolved

The situation was resolved with the NJ Turnpike Authority. The toll lanes are a bit misleading. Cash toll booths are set at an exit, so drivers who do not know that, think they just keep driving if that's not their exit. The very large lane on the left is an EZ-Pass lane, which looks like the continuation of the highway, which is why people get charged for "running" a toll. Apparently a common mistake. Their Customer Service Department was very helpful.
