Worst appliance purchase ever!

Bought what was advertised as a new in-box Maytag refrigerator on eBay from Noble Appliance Center. My husband and I drove 50 miles one way to pick it up ourselves rather than pay the $299 shipping fee which incidenatally would have only gotten it as far as a local warehouse, not our home.

When we arrived at the appointed time and date in Madison Heights Michigan after giving them the required 48 hour notice, we were told our refrigerator was on a delivery truck but there were still several deliveries ahead of us.

After waiting quite some time, we were then told it was actually at a warehouse 1/2 hour away and we could go get it or wait up to 3 more hours for it to be delivered to the store. The manager, possibly the owner, offered us $25 in cash, then offered another $50 as compensation for gas and our inconvenience.

Nice right? The Scam: He said the only way he could do that was to cancel our eBay order and re-bill us the original amount amount minus the $50. He said it would benefit us because we would get an additional $50 off the original price plus the $25 in cash and he would benefit by not having to pay eBay a percentage of the sale (unfortunately, we both missed that huge red flag).

Once we picked up the fridge and drove another 50 miles home, we had 4 men carefully unload it. We then unwrapped the protective plastic and styrofoam packaging (not in box as advertise...another red flag we missed), and discovered a not-so-new appliance.

Nearly the entire left side of the back and vent was damaged and there was no way to determine if the damage would affect the workings of the appliance. A replacement vent would cost $57 and a new gasket, $3 plus shipping.

I couldn't find a replacement back panel, so called Maytag and was told the panel couldn't be relaced. I then called Noble Appliance to see what could be done to rectify the problem.

The owner/manager at the store responded, "You paid less than anyplace else is selling that refrigerator for, and the damage won't be seen anyway." In other words, he thought it wasn't a big deal.

I was totally shocked! I paid for a new refrigerator which I expected to be in pristine condition no matter what we paid, and this was his response?

When I persisted, and told him I wanted the new appliance we paid for, he suggested we load up the damaged item and drive the 100 mile round trip again to pick up another. I responded that it would only be fair that Noble Appliance bring a new, undamaged refrigerator to our home.

He said, "absolutely not," and promptly hung up on me.

To add insult to injury, we cannot take advantage of eBay's guarantee because he cancelled the eBay sale (our mistake for allowing him to do so). He even chuckled when I threatened to report him to eBay, telling me there was nothing they would do and I couldn't leave a negative review since the sale had been cancelled.

Later, I received notification from eBay that the same refrigerator had been relisted. I checked and sure enough, the Maytag fridge we supposedly purchased was for sale again by Noble Appliance.

The description, photos, item number, everything was exactly the same. He had also mentioned to me during our phone conversation that he had many positive reviews on eBay, however, if he's made a habit of cancelling eBay orders on damged merchandise and rewrites the order as "compensation" in-store, as he did in our case, other would also lose their ability to report him or give a negative review. What  scam!

Run, don't walk from this so-called business. I really don't know how he is able to sleep at night knowing he's scamming trusting, honest people.

Plain and simple---this person is unethical, so heed my warning and the warnings of others who have had similar experiences---steer clear!

Please also note this listing quote: "This seller does not offer returns. You are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee if you received an item that is not as described in the listing." However, that is only good if someone from Noble Appliance doesn't cancel your eBay order.

Also, in the description in tiny letters, it reads: "We do our best to accurately describe the condition of all our products. Sometimes minor imperfections can be missed during the inspection process (continued next paragraph).

Different lighting conditions may accentuate certain damages and can make others more difficult to notice." There is no possible way that the extensive imperfections of our "new" appliance could have been missed and am convinced it is their way of covering their butt.

I received an email from eBay stating the seller claims we asked for the cancellation of our order which is totally untrue. If you read one of the other negative reviews on Yelp.com, this place refused to cancel their eBay order.

Why then would he allow us to cancel ours? I'll tell you why; he's a scumbag and a big fat liar!

As others have written, this person appears to be friendly and trustworthy until the sale is final. DO NOT fall for it---he cannot be trusted!

If anyone else has had a similar experience, please take the time and effort to report him to eBay, the BBB, and write reviews. He needs to be stopped from scamming others!
