Not price adjusting is not fair to your customers who shop exclusively with you and online only. I made a huge online purchase only to have most of the items go on a serious clearance the next day. I called and spoke to an Associate, a Manager, and then someone in the Executive Office (who returned my call on behalf of Kathy Houser whom I had to call more than twice) to no avail.
Keep in mind that I still had a week to go before my items would arrive. I got stuck with paying the higher prices but trust me, it will never happen again. I have now come to the conclusion that I no longer wish to do business with Nordstrom’s or Nordstrom’s Rack and want to let everyone know of their bad business practices and their poor customer service.
Consider me now a disappointed long time customer who will no longer shop at Nordstrom’s or Nordstrom’s Rack. Shoppers be warned!

Jim,
You must work for Nordstrom Rack, I would doubt from your poor grammar that you work for Nordstrom. You are an IDIOT, go somewhere and get educated.

I guess for starters, department stores like Macys that do accept a price match are doing so out of total and complete desperation. These are stores with poor inventories, large footprints, and are losing out to stores that provide better service - like Nordstrom.
Nordstrom doesn't need to price adjust because they know full well they don't need to; their customers are in-tuned to when they will begin a sale and time their visits accordingly. When a Nordstrom opens up in a mall, that mall not only gets some serious foot traffic, but mall property owners like Simon generally upgrade the mall - usually as a part of a Nordstrom lease, to upgrade the shopping experience that benefits every store in the mall, not to mention the benefit to the shoppers.
Macy's is still an anchor in many shopping malls, but that hold is tenuous. A mall in California with both a Nordstrom and a Macys....showed serious problems for Macys - Macys nearly shut the store simply because with all of the discounts upon discounts...upon discounts....the experience at Nordstrom was nicer simply because Macys service completely and totally stinks. It still does.
Foot traffic will only help you if you can provide a decent shopping experience. At some point, Macys will declare either Chapter 11, and close more stores, or finally give up and fade away. I mean you can try Bloomingdales, but they lack that cache.
BTW, nobody cares whether you called some executive yahoo at one of these department stores. They don't really care. The decision they made regarding price adjustment is something that has been coming for a while... But take heart, Costco price adjusts....you can get a price adjustment on a package of 7 tubes of toothpaste...

Robert, you obviously don’t shop. Nordstrom and Macy’s to name just two will price match. Nordstrom Rack just changed their policy two years ago, I was just told. So, BOY BYE!

I am not aware of a single store "Online" or "Brick and Mortar" that will price match an item that has gone on clearance. In fact in just about every case I have ever seen there will be an exclusion that specifically states that the clearance price doesn't apply to prior sales.
Stores put items on clearance that they want to get rid of. So if they still have it in stock the best you could do is buy the item on clearance. Then when your regular priced item arrives, return that one. If they don't have them in stock, then you should still return the full priced items so you aren't "stuck" paying a higher price than you needed to. That way you could truly be done with them.
But it is always laughable when someone "name drops" saying they tried to call some executive(?), and complain when that executive doesn't call them back directly. This may be a shock to you, but executives aren't going to waste their time out of their 12-15 hour days to call a customer who has a complaint. They are going to do exactly what they did. Delegate to someone else to handle it.
