Northern Haulers - John Schintgen Moving company demanded $2k more upon delivery failed to deliver items (value of $1K) late pickup & delivery Lake Bluff Illinois

One bedroom condo move from Lisle, Illinois to Huntsville, AL; approximately 50 boxes and 4 pieces of furniture. John was supposed to pick up and deliver June 27, 2007 but did not pick up until June 29 and deliver July 1, due to various reasons and excuses. We had an agreed upon charge of $900 through uShip.com, minus the uShip fees. I transfered $403.95 to his account and had a cashiers check for $400 upon delivery as specified in the agreement.

Because John failed to deliver on specified date I had to hire laborers to unload because he told me he would be unable to do so. This was an additional cost to me of $350.

John "overlooked" items when unloading, one being an imported console table from South Africa. Estimate for table and other items is $1000.

Upon delivery John stated that I owed him an additional $2051 (plus the $400) for him to unload my items. In the 5 additional days it took him to deliver he never stated I would be charged anything except for what we agreed upon. If I did not pay then he would place them in storage until I paid him and the storage fees.

Per voicemail and uShip intervention, John stated he would deliver my table and other items but avoids calls and does not return messages. Two months later I have yet to be have my calls returned or my items. I have since found out that there are many complaints against him for theft of deposits or overcharging for delivering shipments.
