I had a sales rep for Northstar come to my door in July of 2007 to sell their products and service. After politely explaining to him that we would be moving to another state, in which I found out they do not service, in about one year he stated that even if the new owners did not want Northstar service, Northstar could install a system in our new home for that state and if they couldn't do that we would be released from our contract. Now as I am preparing to move in four months I find that this sales person outright lied about what Northstar would do.

They will not install a system in our new home and if the new owners of our current home do not want Northstar (and I wouldn't blame them) we will be liable for the remainder of the three years. As I talked with a customer service manager, he said that we had no proof that the sales rep said that, which he was correct. Unfortunately I took the sales rep word about how they did business.

Additionally, more than half of the alarm service companies out there charge less than half of what northstar charges and provide as good of service, if not better. I think this company has serious integrity issues and would highly recommend looking for another alarm service company. If they continue to do business this way I believe this company will be short lived.

My Positive NorthStar Experience

AUTHOR: Ubiquitous - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 04, 2013

I'm sorry to hear that you and others have had negative experiences with NorthStar. Unfortunately, all companies have the occasional bad apple sales rep or customer service rep. However, it's important to remember, that doesn't make the entire company bad or a scam.

My wife and I had NorthStars systems installed in our home nearly 3 years ago and have had the monitoring ever since. We love the service and have been treated well every step of the way from the initial purchase, to installation, to the ongoing customer service. The peace of mind and convenience of NorthStar systems have been a wonderful addition to our home and life.

I definitely would recommend NorthStar to family, friends and anyone who would like the extra peace of mind a good security/safety system can provide.

Don't believe this company is a parasite.  Just look at their Better Business Bureau rating.  nearly 100 complaints and a C- rating for resolving issues..  AVOID like the plague.

I love Northstar

AUTHOR: Misst - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I have been working at Northstar for two years now. I think I would know if this was a scam. I am very skeptical of a lot of things like most people are so I did a lot of research and found nothing. I deal with their database and I can see any discrepancy, and there never is one. If you have a complaint, don't put it on sites like this saying it's a rip-off or a scam. Just because you had a bad experience with one of the sales people doesn't mean the company is ripping people off. How about you READ the contract. Everything there is legit.

Are you kidding me

Ok consumer who has nothing but good things to say.....either you work for North Star or you havent yet had a problem.

I started out with no problems as well until I decided to cancel my account. Then the problems started.

Wait until you actually have to use the service, I just recently on my own got the darn thing to stop ringing into my phone system.

Trust me they are horrible and so are the people that work there. If you go to the higher ups and they don't honor there on contract what does that tell you!!

Maybe you just want to believe you made a sound decision. Let's hope for your sake you did just that.

Good Luck!!

Nothing but good things to say about Northstar

AUTHOR: Joshbh - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 08, 2009

So im not sure how the whole moving thing goes but i would just like to say that in my opinion, Northstar is a great company. i had an alarm installed at my house this last year as well and i love it. i thought the sales rep was extremely professional and most definitely addressed all my questions and concerns with honesty. As far as the above situation goes, thats too bad that your particular rep was a moron it sounds like, but to assume that all employees are the same is also unfair and unrealistic. anyway, to any considering Northstar alarm, i would say to check into it and read everything first so that your expectations aren't dissapointed.
