I purchased a BFG 8800 ULtra O/C DirectX 10 Card for $800. This card has Nvidia technology in it and I was told would be the standard for DirectX10. Now DirectX 10.1 is released with Vista SP1 and my card is now outdated.

I will now have to purchase a new card raning u to $1,000 to be able to use DirectX 10.1 which the manufacturer claims is not related to DirectX 10.

My warning is to make sure you are purchasing a DirectX 10.1 compatible card and not get mislead so you are forced to buy another.

Assassin's creed takes full advantage of DirectX 10.1 to give you an example and the performace gains are signifigant for antialiasing. Since finding this out Nvidia has aledgedly threatened Ubisoft to remove 10.1 from the game since their 8xxx cards can't function properly, because some of ATI's cards outperform theirs. Though that is quite the scandal in itself.


The response from BFG I received was inadequate.

"This card is DirectX 10 compatible, we never claimed the card is DX 10.1 compatible. NVIDIA currently has not manufactured a DX 10.1 card. It is still undecided if it technically possible or not to release a driver update that will allow for DX 10.1 compatibility or if this is a hardware restriction.

Unfortunately, we can not offer a trade up as your card was launched prior to Feburary 21st, 2008.

The card you bought supports DirectX 10.0, they never claimed that it would support directX 10.1

You got what you paid for, a video card that is directX 10 compatable, if you want to use 10.1 then you need to use a card that is 10.1 compatable.

My Dell Altitude laptop came with a driver that is supposed to be updated by these people and every so often it crashes, wiping out what I am doing and I have to reboot. When I went to their site to see if they provided an update for this driver, they referred me back to DELL's site and I was able to find NOTHING of help there.

The fact that these people are apparently allied with DELL as their partner speaks TONS of WARNINGS to me. I wish I could uninstall this and put in a driver programmer made by another company.

I DO NOT LIKE DELL.

Love my laptop because apparently someone has gone in and replaced all of the cheap junk originally on it --except for that driver -- with REAL PARTS== one of the joys of buying a used computer with all of the bugs worked out of it and I don't have to be RIPPED OFF BY DELL'S SORRY CONSTRUCTED PLASTIC **** AND NO CUSTOMER SERVCE OR SUPPORT.

I never know when that Nvidia drive is going to bug out on me and slam down everything I am doing to an abrupt, totally unexpected end with bad consequences so I do everything I can as fast as I can. It has improved my speed and accuracy but has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to endear itself to me wanting to ever buy another one of their products.

I am glad I am not the only one who has been ripped off by them.

Don't ever buy nVidia again

You may not be aware of this but nVidia has VERY shady business practices. When ATi released the Radeon HD 4800 series (HD 4830, HD 4850, HD4870 and the soon to come HD 4890) nVidia dropped the prices on their GTX 260 and GTX 280 cards by a whopping SIXTY-TWO PERCENT! How can a company drop their retail price by 62% and not go bankrupt? Simple, they were charging WAY too much to begin with. Notice how there are no rip-off reports involving ATi products but two involving nVidia? That should be enough of an answer for anyone.
