Representative yelled on the phone, didn't want to listen to complaints that are caused by building inspection. Rude and Inappropriate behavior.

On 12.27.2013 we made a $12000 down payment to NWA Metal Buildings. The company ordered the building material according to our wishes. A few weeks later the owner returned to our house and told us that he did not filed for the city permit and that we have to have 20 feet distance to the property line, at the beginning he calculated with six. He asked if we would like to change the appearance of the building and wanted to exchange the rafters, of course to our expense. We denied and insisted that it was his mistake and that we will not pay extra. Since the building was already ordered, he needed to file for  variance with the City of Rogers. To get the variance we needed also a land survey to determine the property line. $800 that we needed to pay extra because of his mistake. Needless to say that the time frame to get the variance and final permit exceeded our calculations for weeks. The building was finalized in April 2014 and the company asked me for the last payment. We were ready for the last payment as soon as the City inspector gave the permission. I wanted to pay $1300 immediately and the rest next month, he denied and wanted the money the following Monday 4.28.14. Now since the  building inspection failed because there were no stairs from the small garage door, we denied payment until the problem was dissolved. According to the City inspector and the Arkansas building code it was the responsibility of NWA Metal Buildings to provide the stairs. Estimated costs, $60-80. Very simple fix and nothing that could have been done in a short period of time. The inspectors told us not to pay anything until the problem is dissolved and they called NWA Metal Buildings to inform them about the problem.

NWA Metal Buildings argued with the City inspectors, and told them it is not their responsibility and that the City forgot to include the stairs in the permit. Doing what everybody told me I denied payment until we had further information from the inspectors. I also claimed to issues with the building that were never addressed. A door beam that is longer than the other side and a 2x4 that is crooked installed above the door. Its also full of black mold. Needless to say that the problem was never fixed. Instead the owner got into an argument with me that he wants his money, yelled into the phone, threatened me with his lawyer and that he will get his money. Very unprofessional, rude and totally out of line. It is not our fault nor responsibility that the final inspection wasn't approved, NWA Metal Building argued that he can't know every code and that it is the fault of the City Inspection department. Granted a complicated situation but with more professionalism and more patience he would have achieved a lot more. The other problem was that NWA Metal Building obviously buys material (wood, nails, and extra sheeting) and is taking it back after the building is finished. They removed at least 1.5 boxes of nails, several wood boards and siding. We argued that we paid for the material but NWA Metal Building explained that we just purchased the building but not the material. Well, there was nothing to discuss but I still believe it is inappropriate and an easy way to make extra profit on material and equipment. Overall a very sad, unsatisfying experience in particular the unprofessional behavior of the owner.

Consumer's Desired Resolution:

Settlement won't be necessary, we will not do any future business with NWA Metal Building. His inappropriate behavior caused only more issues. Since the City inspector was alerted about the issue they found out that the garage is build too close to the house, the door installed is on the wrong side and needs to be removed. All costs will have to be covered by us, the customer. For a small amount of money stairs could have been built, in particular with material that was removed from NWA Metal Buildings and the problem would have been dissolved. NWA Metal Building wanted to charge us for the stairs and we denied it since it was their responsibility according to the code. A little bit more customer service, investing a few dollars in building a very simple stair would have gone a long way.
