In 1996 we bought a double-wide from Oakwood Homes in San Antonio, TX. Things were going fine until 2002 when we had a home built on our property and started looking into options to sale the double-wide.

We contacted our selling lot and were told that they had programs to help re-sale the home and to contact Oakwood Acceptance. When we spoke to some one at OA they we were told that they had a program that could help us so we requested all the information in writing. The papers we were sent were nothing similar to what we had discussed with the person on the phone--so nothing was done. We were then told that a new program would be starting up the following month and to contact her back in a month and she would be able to give us the information.

We contacted her again the following month as instructed and she said she that no new such program was in existance and didn't know what we were talking about, that we could have never been told that-- the whole time we always talked to the same person, called directly to her extension. We found out though the news at that time that OA had filed bankruptcy -- no wonder this new promised program didn't exist.

I believe we did receive a letter at that the account would be transfered but never heard anything else. The double-wide sat on our property for 2 years when out of the blue someone showed up to figure out how to pick it up becuase it had been sold at auction. I requested paperwork from these people to know it was legit and found out the home was auctioned for $3000. Then about a year after that Vanderbilt sent us a letter that they were in charge of the account and wanted thier $$. Now we have received a letter from their attorney demanding payment for they will go to court to have a judgement filed.

Is there anything we can do to get this stopped?
