My husband and I bought a house that had a lifetime Olshan Foundation Warranty. After a year in the home we realized we needed to contact Olshan and have some work done. After a six month battle, we finally managed to arange a date for with them for a re-level/repair work on the home.
After re-leveling only part of the covered warranty they managed to leave my home in much worse shape than what it was in before they started. Because they only leveled certain parts of the house (and not the areas that were the lowest) my house did not end up a flat suface. Because it is so uneven, my celing and walls and the floor and walls are detaching. I have half inch gaps between the wall and ceiling, where bugs and spiders are now comming in from the attic and taking over my home. My daughter stepped on a black widow and we are finding spiders in the beds and on the furniture!
I have a gaping hole that is about 4ft in leanght that runs across the bottom of the wall (where it has seperated from the floor) in daughters room. Not only can you see daylight through the hole, but it floods the room every time it rains!
After hiring a lawyer, Olshan came out and "inspected" the issues that I am having due to their re-leveling my house. They say that unless I pay more money to level parts of the house that is not covered under the warranty they cannot fix all of the proplems with my house that they have caused. However, they do want to come back out in Febuary and re-level what is under warranty (keeping in mind that it may cause more cosmetic damage and that they would not be responsible of course).
What am I suppose to do between now and Febuary in an unsafe house house that leaks all winter?! I have kids to think about.
I don't want them comming back out in Febuary and messing my house up even more. I want someplace to live where my kids can be happy, healthy and safe, NOW!

Did hiring a lawyer do any good on your Olshan experience?

Rebuttal is Wrong

The fellow who wrote the rebuttal does not know what he is talking about. He is flat wrong on several counts. What the heck does he mean you must have a "perfect" foundation before performing major repair work? That is pure baloney. The reason people call foundation companies is because they have very "imperfect" foundations.
Rather than hash out the advantages and disadvantages of different repair methods I will make the following suggestion:
Hire a structural engineer who:
1) has experience with residential concrete slab foundations
2) is independent - not on a repair company's payroll or receiving any referral fee
There is a lot of mis-information and incorrect information out in the market and it is spread by the companies who will profit from it. Get an unbiased opinion from a true expert, a structural engineer with experience in the area.
It's a minefield so Good Luck.

maybe so

Im not defending osham on this...but however, its well known fact that when doing foundation repair that while the piers and etc can fix current problems...that it can in fact cause new cracks per the settling and etc.
Fact is it can be anywhere... foundation repair is not a perfect science and new problems can result from them doing their work... One should not do major 'work' on a house till they confirm foundation is perfect at that time... i made that mistake and have existing seperation before foundation repair.
Im in the process of looking for foundation repair...and osham waws on the list...but may still be removed from that list. or at least moved lower on list.
However a lot of the complaints on here are not exactly accurate and are griping over things that are well known to still happen no matter who does the repair.
Any new company who comes along and says it was done badly, is likley not quite being honest.
The main difference between companies is how many piers they are going to do...
The more the piers, the better.
