OneLife Fitness Greenbrier One Life Lied About Honoring Bally's Memberships and Rates Chesapeake, Virginia

Last month I found out from a piece of paper hanging in the locker room at Bally's that they were closing.  The front desk staff told me that they were closing, One Life Fitness Greenbrier had bought them, and that my membership was being transferred over there.  They also said that One Life would be honoring the membership rates that we were paying at Bally's. 

I went home and immediately contacted One Life Fitness Greenbrier and spoke with the manager, John.  He explained to me that yes our memberships were being transferred and that the rates would be honored.  He said that we could go ahead and start coming to One Life and using the facility because they had been told that the staff at Bally's just didn't care about helping anyone (true).  He said that welcome packs would be passed out starting June 11th.

My husband and I had a tour of the facility three weeks ago and were told again by another employee that our contracts, including rates, from Bally's would be honored.  We were given temporary passes, and were satisfied that transferring to One Life was a good idea.  We had never been very satisfied with the condition of things at Bally's, but at $19.99/month with a pool it was a good deal for us.  Since memberships at One Life were $39.99/month with outrageous registration fees we decided to make the switch.

Last week I stopped by One Life to pick up the welcome packet and was told by the girl at the front desk that Bally's hadn't turned over the database with the membership information so the welcome packets weren't ready yet.  She said that Bally's had to turn everything over by this Thursday because June 22nd was the day Bally's was closing its doors, so to stop by the following week.

I stopped by today and was shocked to learn that I couldn't use the temporary pass anymore, the welcome packets had been taken away, and if I wanted to use the gym I had to join and they were offering $30.00/month with no registration fee.  I told her that Bally's had already taken my and my husband's membership fees out for the upcoming month.  She informed me that on Monday Bally's said that memberships weren't being transferred, and that the Commonwealth of Virginia had stepped in and told them that they couldn't force people to choose them as their fitness facility. 

This is totally ridiculous.  Bally's has already charged us for the upcoming month, and is only offering a prorated refund now because we didn't give them 30 days notice.  One Life is refusing to honor the contract rates like they said they would.  I can't believe they think they are doing us a favor by letting us join their gym for $30.00/month when our contract with Bally's is for $19.99/month.  The only person that wins in this mess is One Life because they don't have to honor the lifetime memberships and discounted memberships that the members of Bally's had.
