We received a gift card for $200 on a Visa card by Bancorp Bank, onevanilla.com.  When we checked the amount online at www.onevanilla.com, the card showed a $200 credit.  A few hours later, we tried to use the card and it was declined.  We checked again online and the card showed a balance of $0, and a transaction of $200 had apparently been made by someone, definitely not us.  I called customer service who, although nice enough, said our only option at getting the money back was to call the merchant that the transaction had been made at.  I queried the customer service rep about this, asking several questions to no avail.  I did call the supposed merchant and it was a generic answering machine.  In my opinion the whole thing is a scam.  I do not believe the service rep was telling the truth.  I do not believe that onevanilla.com can be trusted, and took the money as soon as we went online to check.  The customer service rep said that perhaps we used a slightly different website from onevanilla.com (that perhaps it was a letter off or something) and a scam, but that was not the case.  It was definitely the correct website.  My son is devastated, he is a college student, had worked for the money, and really needed it.  Please beware.  Please someone shut these people down.

Not possible that the info was stolen before we had card

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Hello,

I do not believe it is possible that the card info was stolen before we were in possession of the card.  Here is the reason.  The card has been in our possession for about a month. Yesterday my son went online to see what the card was worth (I don't know why), at the onevanilla.com site, put in the card number and the online site showed a balance of $200.  Almost immediately there after, literally within a few hours, the card was stripped.  Last night my son went to the grocery store, tried to use the card and it was declined.

He came home, and got back online to onevanilla.com, and found that there was a transaction pending in process for the full amount of $200 at a very odd sounding business name.  I have called the number of the supposed merchant where the transaction took place to be shuffled into an answering system that I can not get beyond (no operator/people).  Area code for the number is for the San Diego CA area.  How does that not sound like a scam.  It seems that signing into the site gives someone access to the card number and thus it's use.  Very sad state of affairs where people are scamming Visa cards.

Possbly a thief

There is a chance that someone has copied the card info before it is given to you. The person made sure that the card was given out. Then use the info of the card to spend the money in the card online. The person could be someone who handled the card before the card was in your hand. It could be a thief inside the issuing company or the one delivering the card.

So you may need to explain certain things here. How did you receive the card? What is the process of obtaining the card?
