My son was living in an Ottawa townhouse with some of his friends while he was going to school.

Two men came to the door and said they were from Ontario Hydro.
They asked him for the Hydro Bill and told him if he signed a form he would receive a special rate.  My son told them the Hydro account was not in his name and they said it didn't matter as long as he was over 18 and a residence of the house. He felt he had to sign the paper.

Since then the person who had the account moved out and my son moved home when school was finished.

Now OES wants my son to pay a $950 cancellation fee because he signed the form at the door.

He has been harassed daily by Bond Street Collections for money and they are threatening to ruin his credit rating (what does that mean ?! Can they really do that??).

My son want to pay them and forget about it.

I want to fight this.

My mother was also a victim of this company in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. Same scenario. Men at the door with a paper to sign. She also thought they were from Ontario Hydro and signed the paper.
The difference - the cancellation fee of $950 was waived when she cancelled because she is a senior citizen.  What's up with that?
